A Neolithic menhir, a Château with several construction phases, and a circular hiking trail offering panoramic views of Les Chaponnières and Le Givre give the town a range of cultural and scenic points of interest. When planning, you can distinguish the options by walking or cycling distance and by their historical context.

Trails through forests, meadows and villages

At the municipal level, trails pass through forests and meadows, as well as the municipality’s many villages. If you want to get a sense of a particular walking distance, the marked “Circuit Le Givre” circular trail provides specific details: it is 6.7 km long and takes approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes. The start and finish are at Place de l’Église.

The Circuit leads to a viewpoint with panoramic views of the villages of Les Chaponnières and Le Givre, as well as the surrounding area. The distance and approximate duration provide a guide for planning your time; check the route information before setting out. The viewpoint adds a specific destination within the circular walk to the details about its length and starting point.

Cycling route with shorter loops

For a cycling trip, “Ça roule dans le bocage” offers a different scale: the route is 44.7 km long and can also be ridden as 18 km and 8 km loops. This gives you several explicitly stated distances to choose from. Compared with the 6.7 km walking Circuit, the cycling route is the longer trip; the shorter loops offer additional options for planning your route.

Around 15 information panels along the cycling route highlight significant places in the region, including the sunken lanes of Le Givre. The panels also make the tour a regional discovery route: the information they provide covers several sights in the surrounding area, not just one place. Route details may change; check the route information before setting out.

Megaliths and regional history

The Menhir dit des Petites Jaunières in La Brunière near Le Givre is a Neolithic monument. On 3 December 1980, it was listed as a historic monument. In the regional context, Le Givre is also part of the “Terres Mégalithes” program: it involved ten municipalities, where 17 monuments were enhanced along 63 km of circular trails. The menhir can therefore be viewed both as a local monument and as part of this inter-municipal heritage program.

Château and church

The original Château de la Brunière, located in “La Brunière”, was built around the 13th century. Later, a new Renaissance building was constructed at the rear, on the ruins of the older structure. This sequence distinguishes the older building from the later Renaissance phase. A historical connection with Henri IV is also recorded: the future king spent a night at the Château before becoming king.

The Château has been listed as a historic monument since 1984 and is privately owned. It is open on Heritage Days; if you are planning a visit, check in advance whether visiting is possible. Another specific historical reference is Église Saint-Martin du Givre: it is dedicated to Saint Martin of Vertou, whose image is depicted in the central choir window.

Le Givre in its regional context

In the south of the municipality, departmental roads intersect, connecting La Roche-sur-Yon with La Tranche-sur-Mer and Luçon with Les Sables. As a result, these four towns are less than 30 minutes away. Actual journey times may vary depending on traffic and the route taken. If you are deciding whether Le Givre is right for a regional stay, you have several points of reference: trails through the municipal countryside, a marked circular hiking trail, a cycling route with several distance options, and reminders of local history.
