When planning a stay in Savigné-L'evêque, you can choose from several clearly distinct themes: the art and architectural history of Église Saint-Germain, the historic Domaine de Nuyet estate, two hiking trails with different stated durations, and the Fête du cheval. You can compare the routes by length and duration, while the church and estate offer different historical perspectives.

Art and architectural history at Église Saint-Germain

A section of the nave wall at Église Saint-Germain dates from the Gallo-Roman period. The church also contains six protected objects. Another connection to art history is the 17th-century depiction of the Adoration of the Shepherds, which was exhibited at the Louvre and Abbaye de l'Epau. This brings together an architectural feature from the Gallo-Roman period and a later work of art as two distinct historical layers. This contrast in age draws attention both to the church's architectural history and to its artistic furnishings.

Domaine de Nuyet: estate and gardens

Domaine de Nuyet is one of the last intact examples of an 18th-century estate in the Sarthe. It combines a manor house with an agricultural operation. The grounds include gardens bordered by hornbeams, a large walled kitchen garden, a rose garden and a staggered orchard. Alongside the manor house, the estate therefore features several differently designed garden areas. Unlike Église Saint-Germain, where architectural history and art take centre stage, Domaine de Nuyet is defined by its estate, agriculture and gardens.

Two hiking trails, two timeframes

The hiking trails differ considerably in distance and stated duration. Les vignes et côteaux is 14 km long, with a stated duration of 3 hours and 45 minutes. L'Orée de Blandan covers 4.5 km and is listed as taking one hour. In direct comparison, the routes differ by 9.5 km and the stated durations by 2 hours and 45 minutes. This makes the time required, as well as the distance, a useful point of comparison when planning your day. You can decide whether to plan a shorter outing or a hike with a longer estimated duration.

Fête du cheval and seasonal visiting hours

The Fête du cheval adds an event to the church, estate and hiking routes. It includes a costumed procession of horses and carriages through the town's streets, as well as a varied show with a different theme each year.

A previous seasonal opening schedule for Domaine de Nuyet provided for visits from 1 to 31 July and from 16 August to 30 September. It was open on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Check the current opening hours before your visit.
