Marçon combines water activities with walking trails and a remarkable architectural history. At Lac des Varennes, you can combine time by the lake with a walk or a canoe trip; in the village, a church and a listed school restaurant offer different insights into architectural history. Wine tastings add another focus to your stay.

At Lac des Varennes: Water and Activity

The leisure centre at Lac des Varennes covers 70 hectares, including 50 hectares of water. Facilities include a sandy beach, supervised swimming and a water slide. A shaded picnic area and a walking path around the lake offer more ways to spend time by the water. You can combine a stay on the shore with some activity along the path.

If you’d rather be out on the water, the Centre Nautique de Marçon offers a 9-kilometre canoe trip on the Loir. It starts at the entrance to La Chartre-sur-le-Loir, passes through Lac des Varennes and returns to the centre. As operating details may change, check the provider’s latest information before making plans.

Two Circular Routes of Different Lengths

The municipal walking trail network includes the 5.5-kilometre “Circuit du Lac des Varennes”. Another option is the “A travers le vignoble” walk: this easy circular route for walkers is 8 kilometres long and starts in Marçon. The two routes offer different distances to help you plan your walking time. Check the conditions on the “A travers le vignoble” route before setting out.

Architecture and History in Marçon

The Restaurant scolaire on Chemin de la Demée is classified as a historic monument and was protected in 2023. The building was designed between 1956 and 1958 by Le Corbusier’s firm, under the direction of André Wogensky. Concrete, brick, wood and glass come together in its construction; it was built on pilotis, or supporting columns. The architect also designed the interior furnishings. The building thus combines a clearly dated history with several readily identifiable architectural features.

The Notre-Dame church in Marçon dates from the 12th to the 18th century. Its bell tower dates from the 15th century, and the church also features murals. Inside are 16th-century carved choir stalls and an 18th-century polychrome wooden Madonna and Child. An individual visit takes about 45 minutes on average—a specific time frame to bear in mind when planning your day.

Wine Tastings and Cellars

At Domaine de la Roche Bleue, a tour of the vineyards is followed by a private wine tasting in the cellar. Domaine de Cézin in Marçon offers tastings of the Coteaux du Loir and Jasnières appellations in its tuff-stone cellar. The experiences have different focuses: one combines a vineyard tour with a cellar tasting, while the other features tastings of two named appellations in a tuff-stone cellar. Dates and booking conditions may change; check these details in advance.
