La Chapelle Huon can be explored through a variety of experiences: the history of the Église Saint-André, the Circuit de la Redonne through bocage landscapes and sunken lanes, and the apple products of the Cidrerie Distillerie Pelletier. Stage 68 of the Sentiers Sarthois also leads to La Chapelle Huon. Alongside church art and trails, local produce is another distinctive focus to explore.
A church and art from several eras
The oldest part of the Église Saint-André is Romanesque and dates from the 11th to 12th centuries. The church also includes a seigneurial chapel from the Renaissance. The Église Saint-André has been listed as a historic monument since 6 January 1926.
The more recent restoration is also part of the building’s history: the current bell tower was built in 2000 as part of a comprehensive restoration. Contemporary stained-glass windows were installed in the church during this restoration. The architectural and decorative features mentioned here therefore range from the oldest Romanesque section to additions made in 2000.
Another work of art is the retable de sacristie. Its pediment relief depicts two angels holding a chalice from which a host emerges. A cartouche on the entablature bears the date 1653. The altarpiece has been protected as a historic object since 19 January 1990. The protection status applies to two different items: the church as a historic monument and the altarpiece as a historic object.
Hiking and cycling on the Redonne
The Circuit de la Redonne runs between La Chapelle Huon and Saint-Gervais-de-Vic alongside the Ruisseau de la Redonne. Its route passes through bocage landscapes and along sunken lanes; it also offers several panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. The route also takes in the Manoir de la Béchuère, which dates from the 15th and 16th centuries. This trail brings together landscape features and a historic destination.
The Circuit is designated as both a VTT (mountain bike) route and a Sentier de Promenade et de Randonnée (PR) walking trail. This designation gives you a practical starting point for planning: you can consider the route as either a mountain biking or hiking trail. Starting points are listed at the Parking des Grands Bois and at another location in Feumusson. Feumusson is on the D 74, 3.7 km north of La Chapelle Huon. Access conditions may change, so check the latest information before setting out.
Another named trail reference is Stage 68 of the Sentiers Sarthois. After crossing the D 74, it follows the Moulin de l’Étang to La Chapelle Huon. Its description therefore specifies a sequence of waypoints leading into the village.
Apple products and an event venue
Since the 2000s, the Cidrerie Distillerie Pelletier has been processing apples in La Chapelle Huon to make a wide range of products. These include traditional farmhouse cider—sweet, brut or extra brut—as well as 100% juices made from apples, apples and pears, or apples and quinces. Other products mentioned include Pétillant du Verger, cider vinegar and cider jam. The fruity Apéropom is aged in oak barrels and served well chilled. The range therefore extends from different styles of cider and juices to vinegar, jam and an aged apple drink. Individual products may change.
The Gîte de la Gare is located in the former freight station of La Chapelle Huon. It serves as a reception and event venue for family and professional events with up to 180 guests. It is therefore a venue in its own right for gatherings, alongside the trails and heritage sites that also shape the area.
