Discover Méral
Méral offers several distinct reasons to visit. The Chapelle Saint-Joseph combines a documented construction history with continuing religious devotion; fishing is possible at the Plan d’eau de Méral, and you can go for walks along the Oudon. Picnicking is also possible in Méral. In addition, there is a route description for the Circuit de Méral and visits to the Brasserie de l’Oudon. To help decide how to plan your trip, you can first consider whether culture, time outdoors or a visit arranged in advance is your priority.
Cultural and religious destinations
The Chapelle Saint-Joseph in Méral was built between 1882 and 1884. This construction period places it in the late 19th century and provides a clear historical context. At the same time, the chapel remains a living place where religious devotion continues. Its history of construction and present-day religious practice therefore coexist. The construction period and contemporary devotion give the chapel distinct temporal dimensions.
The tomb of Victoire Brielle also continues to attract visitors and pilgrims to Méral. If you are interested in religious destinations, you can include it as a separate reason to visit. The two destinations have different points of focus: the chapel is defined by its construction period and continuing devotion, while the tomb draws ongoing interest from visitors and pilgrims.
By the water and on foot
The Plan d’eau de Méral is a destination where fishing is possible. Access rules may change, so check them before going fishing. Picnicking is also possible in Méral. You can go for walks along the Oudon. A route description updated on 19 December 2022 identifies the Circuit de Méral as an easy 11-kilometre hiking trail. Its length and stated difficulty provide useful guidance when choosing a walk; a stroll by the river is a different way to spend time outdoors. You can therefore consider different factors: access rules for fishing, and distance and difficulty for hiking. The 11 kilometres indicate the route length, not the time it takes to walk; compare the route with the time you have planned for the hike.
Visits to the Brasserie de l’Oudon
The Brasserie de l’Oudon offers visits year-round by appointment. Guided tours for groups are available on request. Arrange the details of your visit before travelling, especially if a group tour is important to you. This allows you to plan the visit as an appointment rather than an unarranged spontaneous stop. Organic beers are also available to discover. As the selection may change, enquire in advance if you are interested in a particular range.
