Larchamp can be explored through several distinct themes: the Sente aux boisus introduces visitors to traditional forestry trades, while the Taillis de Pouillé circular trail leads to a viewpoint overlooking Larchamp and the bocage landscape. The Monument du Petit Val commemorates events from 1944 and local resistance fighters; at Le Péras, the focus is on goat milk production and farm products. When planning a visit, it is therefore worth considering whether local history, a landscape view, a memorial site or agricultural production is the main priority.

Walking for a theme and a view

The Sente aux boisus is a 5.5-kilometre themed trail, and the walk takes about two hours. This approximate time gives the outing a concrete place in the day’s plans. The route focuses on the history of forestry trades. Through tree species, tools, traditional knowledge and historical techniques, it shows how these trades were practised in the past.

Woodworkers in the 19th and 20th centuries were often farmers looking for additional work. Woodworking was therefore a supplementary source of income for people whose daily lives were also shaped by farming. This context links the craft itself—its tools and techniques—with the economic reason for doing the work: for many, it provided extra income.

The Taillis de Pouillé circular trail has a different focus. It leads to a viewpoint overlooking Larchamp and the bocage landscape; on the return to Larchamp, the route follows the former Laval–Landivy departmental railway line. The viewpoint and railway track offer two different points of reference: the former directs your gaze across the landscape, while the latter recalls a historic rail connection. This makes it easy to choose a trail based on what you are interested in: the Sente aux boisus explores forestry trades and their history, while Taillis de Pouillé combines landscape views with the former railway line.

A memorial site and farming

The Monument du Petit Val provides a distinct historical focus. It commemorates three Americans who died on 4 August 1944 during an attack on an armoured vehicle, as well as local resistance fighters. The memorial therefore honours both the three people killed in the attack and the local resistance. Here, the focus is on remembering people and the events of the war; by contrast, the Sente aux boisus explores the history of traditional forestry trades.

Le Péras adds agricultural production to the mix. Visitors can discover how goat milk is produced there; the farm makes goat’s cheese and dairy products. The connection between production and the products gives this theme a tangible link to the farm. Le Péras also offers a guided workshop, providing another way to discover Larchamp through agricultural production, alongside its trails and memorial site.
