Juvigné can be explored through two distinct highlights: the town centre, with its church and houses—often built of granite and decorated with flowers—and the activities at Étang Neuf. A walk through the centre reveals narrow lanes, a washhouse and the parish garden. Other attractions include the exhibition on rural history at the Musée de l’Evolution Agricole and an easy circular walk lasting about two hours. Cultural discoveries and outdoor activities are therefore separate options for planning your day.
Church and townscape
The present-day Église Saint-Martin de Juvigné was rebuilt in 1868 in the Neo-Romanesque style, replacing an older building. The date refers to the rebuilding of the present-day church. Houses, often built of granite and decorated with flowers, cluster around the church and main square. A walk through the town centre also reveals narrow lanes, a washhouse and the parish garden. A visit to the town therefore takes in both the church’s architectural history and details of the village centre. Since 1994, Juvigné has held the “4 Fleurs” label, a municipal tourism award.
Rural history at the museum
The Musée de l’Evolution Agricole presents an exhibition across 1,200 m² that traces two centuries of rural history through numerous video stations. The focus shifts here from a single building to the history of rural life over a longer period. The museum also aims to collect, restore, enhance and preserve agricultural equipment. Its subject matter therefore encompasses both historical interpretation and the care of agricultural equipment. This combination makes the museum a distinct cultural attraction alongside a tour of the church and town centre; those interested in rural history can explore a broader perspective here than that of a single house or church building.
Activities at Étang Neuf
At Étang Neuf, you can choose between birdwatching, fishing and a walk. The ornithological observatory is open year-round, except on hunting days. Day permits are available for fishing at Étang Neuf; check the current conditions before your visit. The easy Circuit de l'Etang Neuf near Juvigné is six kilometres long, starts at the Étang Neuf car park and takes about two hours. Each of the three activities offers a different focus. Étang Neuf de Juvigné is listed as a ZNIEFF and classified as a sensitive natural area by the Mayenne département. These designations add information about the area’s landscape context to its recreational opportunities. As trail conditions can change, check them before setting out.
A town walk or a circular trail?
The options also differ in how easy they are to plan: the Circuit has a specified route and approximate walking time, while a walk through the town takes in several features of the centre. If you want a walk with a defined duration, the Circuit provides a more specific guide; if you would rather focus on architecture and village details, choose the town centre.
