Circular trails and distances
The “Le bocage bouérillon” circular trail is 11 km long and described as easy. It starts at the car park by the Plan d’eau and passes through the landscape of Bouère, characteristic of the Mayenne bocage. The loop also offers a chance to discover unusual monuments in the commune, so walking and architectural history are part of the same route description.
For 2026, the “Un voyage hors du temps à Bouère” Baludik trail is another option. It is 4 km long and takes approximately two hours. This gives you two different distances to compare: the 4-km loop with an approximate duration, and the 11-km circular trail through the bocage landscape.
Trails by the water and in the forest
A short, tree-lined path runs along the shore of the Plan d’eau du Château des Daviers. The shoreline and trees shape the walk. This is a different kind of route from the longer circular trails: the path described here stays by the water, while “Le bocage bouérillon” takes you through the commune’s landscape.
The 140-hectare Forêt domaniale de Bellebranche state forest is also near Bouère, 2 km from the town centre. It is suitable for family walks. Its wooded area offers a different scale from the short path by the shore; when planning a walk, you can choose between a tree-lined path along the water and a large forest.
Monuments and architectural history
The Château de la Vezouzière in Bouère has been listed as a historic monument since 10 August 1977. The protection covers the façades and roofs, the chapel, and the enclosure of the “tapis vert” with its gate and railings.
The Cimetière paysager de Bouère was established in 1778 and is also listed as a historic monument. A long avenue lined with lawns and box hedges leads to a central cross. The cemetery thus combines a clearly defined layout with its history as a site dating from the late 18th century. The dates have different meanings: 1778 marks the cemetery’s establishment, while 10 August 1977 is the listing date of the Château de la Vezouzière.
The Château du Bois-Jourdan is also partially protected as a historic monument. The corresponding entry in the Ministry of Culture’s records was updated in 2025. This means the information about the two châteaux differs: a specific listing date is given for the Vezouzière, and the protection covers several structural features; the Bois-Jourdan is partially protected.
Another trace of architectural history leads from Bouère to Paris: marble quarried in Bouère was used for the Basilica of Sacré-Cœur de Montmartre and the Saint-Lazare railway station. These two uses represent different types of construction—religious architecture and railway construction—and complement the monuments in Bouère with a story about local materials.
