Bais is situated in a rural livestock-farming region where hedgerows divide the fields: the bocage landscape is a defining feature of the area. There are also circular trails through the countryside, as well as a château and a church, each with its own cultural features. If you are considering Bais for your trip, these different highlights can help you decide what you would like to experience locally.

Bocage Landscape and Circular Trails

The Circuit de l'Aron is an 18-kilometre circular route starting in Bais, suitable for hiking, horse riding and mountain biking. It follows the bocage trails around Bais and offers panoramic views of the Coëvrons. The route can be shortened using the V1 variant. For a longer route, it can be combined with the Circuit de la Vaudelle or the Boucle multi-randonnée N°04. Check the latest route information and trail conditions before setting out.

The Boucle multi-randonnée N°04 passes over Montaigu and through the Bois du Rochard and Bois d'Izé. Montaigu is home to a remarkable viewpoint overlooking the region. The two routes therefore offer different landscape highlights: the Circuit de l'Aron focuses on bocage trails and panoramic views of the Coëvrons, while the Boucle N°04 takes in the named hills and woodland areas. Those planning to hike, ride horses or mountain bike will find these activities listed for the Circuit de l'Aron; the Boucle N°04 is another option, with its own landscape highlights.

Château and Church

The Château de Montesson was built in stages from the 14th to the 17th century and is surrounded by moats. Its entrance pavilion has a curved roof on all four sides. The granite façade bears the coat of arms of the de Montesson family, and a round tower is topped with a slate roof shaped like an onion dome. The château stands on the road to Hambers, at the edge of Bais, and is visible from the road. Outside the Journées du Patrimoine, it can only be viewed from the road.

The frescoes in the Church of Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption offer another cultural highlight: they depict scenes from the Passion of Christ, his childhood and his public ministry. The church can be visited free of charge or on a guided tour by request. Check visiting arrangements again before your trip.

Seasonal Activities and Planning

Domaine Carp’Eden is a private 5,000 m² sports fishing pond on the Bras d’Or in Bais. Seasonal, family-friendly introductory fishing afternoons are offered there by reservation. Equipment is provided, and a guide looks after participants. Check the latest dates and booking conditions in advance. This activity is distinct from the walking routes and heritage visits, as it requires a reservation and is available on a seasonal basis.

The intercommunal swimming pool in Bais is a heated outdoor pool with a sunbathing lawn, a paddling pool for young children and a large waterslide. As it is a seasonal facility, check the latest opening information before your visit. When planning your stay, take both the time of year and any reservation requirements into account. To find a hotel in Bais, you can first consider whether walking routes, heritage or a seasonal activity is most important to your trip.
