Seiches-Sur-Le-Loir can be explored through different interests: its green landscape, with forests and birdwatching, as well as its architectural and local history. The green surroundings include 200 hectares of forest. On the cultural side, highlights include Château du Verger, chapels and a historic mill. When planning, you can consider whether nature watching, cycling or historic buildings will shape your stay.

Forest, water and birdwatching

North of Seiches-Sur-Le-Loir lies the Forêt de Boudré, an area designated as an Espace Naturel Sensible. Wetlands and the Loir River surround the forest; together, they form the Boucle du Loir. Forest, wetlands and river are thus defining features of this natural area. Numerous birds now breed in former quarry ponds. You can observe them from birdwatching posts. The combination of a former quarry and today’s birdlife gives the area a distinctive focus for nature watching.

At the trailhead in the Forêt de Boudré, next to the car park, you’ll find Parcours du Cœur toilets and picnic tables. This means a place to take a break is located right at the starting point. There is also a specific option for cycling: La vallée du Loir à Vélo, the Véloroute V47, is listed as a cycling opportunity in Seiches-Sur-Le-Loir. Hiking with opportunities to watch birds and cycling therefore offer different ways to choose activities.

Châteaux, chapels and a mill

Château du Verger and its extensive landscaped park are stops on the Circuit de Matheflon. The château was built for Marshal de Gié after his return from Italy and was dismantled between 1776 and 1783. It is listed as a historic monument, with registrations recorded for 12 November 2001 and 26 June 2007. The château’s construction and dismantling, on the one hand, and its later registrations, on the other, represent different periods in its history.

Chapelle de Matheflon is a remarkable example of local religious architecture. It was originally built as a simple wooden keep overlooking the Loir. Its early origins and religious architecture give the chapel a distinctive historical connection. Chapelle de la Garde is another stop on the Circuit de Matheflon.

Moulin de Matheflon offers a different perspective on local history. It was built in the 18th century and operated for many years, grinding grain into flour. The cultural heritage therefore includes buildings and religious architecture as well as the former processing of grain. The hamlet of Matheflon also offers panoramic views over the Loir Valley.

Planning your stay

Seiches-Sur-Le-Loir is located at the junction of the D323 departmental road and the A11 motorway; Angers-Loire Airport is five minutes away. To plan your visit, it helps to compare the area’s different attractions: the Forêt de Boudré offers forest, wetlands and birdwatching; the Circuit de Matheflon brings together several historic discoveries; and the Véloroute V47 adds cycling to the options. You can use the experiences you want to make central to your stay to guide your hotel search.
