A botanical trail, a listed church and historic sites in Munet give Distré a variety of points of interest. The Sentier botanique runs between vineyards and wetlands; at the Plan d'eau de l'Echallier, you can go for walks, enjoy picnics and fish. Château de Pocé and the Dolmen de la Vacherie add historic buildings and a prehistoric monument. This makes it possible to explore the landscape, cultural history and waterside leisure as different facets of the area.

Vineyards, wetlands and activities by the water

The Sentier botanique showcases two distinct landscapes: vineyards behind the church and a wetland with its biotope below Munet. As a trail between vineyards and wetlands, it makes the transition from wine-growing country to wetland a central feature. The biotope draws attention to one habitat, while the vineyards represent a different type of landscape. Visitors wishing to compare landscapes when choosing where to go will find a clear contrast here.

At the Plan d'eau de l'Echallier, you can go for walks, enjoy picnics and fish. Compared with the Sentier botanique, the difference lies in the focus: there, the experience is shaped by the transition between landscapes; here, by the choice of activities by the water. Distré thus offers different ways to spend time outdoors, with a landscape walk and waterside leisure each offering a distinct experience.

Église Saint-Julien: listed status and details

The Église Saint-Julien de Distré has been classified as a historic monument by decree since 22 September 1914. The choir contains three wooden choir stalls from the 15th century, which were classified by decree on 15 February 1915. The church and its furnishings therefore bring together different dates: the stalls date from the 15th century, while the two classifications date from 1914 and 1915.

A side round-arched portal features stones arranged in intricate lozenge and fern patterns. Different details stand out at the church: the choir stalls are notable for their material, number and date, while the portal draws attention to the arrangement of its stones. Those interested in architectural history will find both a dated furnishing and a distinctive pattern in the architecture.

From prehistory to historic connections

The Dolmen de la Vacherie is a prehistoric dolmen with a stone slab measuring 6 m × 2 m. This specific measurement gives the monument a different profile from Château de Pocé, which was an important fief in the 11th century. It had four large towers, tall walls with loopholes and deep ditches cut into the tuff. Distré’s historical perspective thus spans everything from a prehistoric monument to a site of importance in the Middle Ages.

Munet also preserves a range of historic connections. The Pont du Perray stands at an ancient Gallo-Roman ford and a former washhouse. A surviving section of the Chemin de Bien linked the priory of Distré to its mother abbey via the slope of Terrefort. At the bridge, the former ford and washhouse take centre stage; the path tells of a connection between religious institutions. The two sites thus offer different ways to explore the history of the area.
