Saint-Fiacre-Sur-Maine brings together winegrowing, village history and routes through valleys and vineyard slopes. This offers a choice of different focuses for a stay: a château visit with a tour and tasting, the GR de Pays Sèvre et Maine, and the village streetscape around its distinctive church tower. Fishing and canoeing are also possible on the Sèvre. Your itinerary will differ depending on whether you focus on wine, outdoor activities or architectural history.

Winegrowing and Tasting

Saint-Fiacre-Sur-Maine lies in the area covered by the protected designation of origin “Sèvre et Maine” and is part of the top cru “Monnières-Saint-Fiacre”. Muscadet is a wine made from the Melon de Bourgogne grape variety. This brings together a local designation of origin and a top cru with a specific grape variety.

Château du Coing de Saint-Fiacre offers tours of the vineyards and cellars, a historical account of the different phases of construction, and a tasting of three wines from the estate. The visit combines landscape, architectural history and wine. A visit to the estate and a tasting can be followed by lunch or dinner. Table service is provided in the former orangery or in the adjacent outdoor area; each meal is paired with the estate’s wines. Check current tour dates and whether a reservation is required with the château in advance.

On Foot and by the Water

The GR de Pays Sèvre et Maine passes through Saint-Fiacre-Sur-Maine along the Sèvre and Maine valleys and the vineyard slopes. The section in the village runs from Gué Joubert to La Ramée and offers views of the vineyards and the Sèvre nantaise. There are two picnic areas along the route. The named endpoints and places to stop provide concrete guidance for the walk; check the current route before setting out.

Fishing and canoeing are possible at Port de la Cantrie on the Sèvre. A visit to the port therefore offers a different focus from the route through valleys and vineyard slopes: here, activities on the water take centre stage. Check water conditions and access on site.

Church Tower, Built Heritage and Orientation

The unusual bell tower of the church in Saint-Fiacre-Sur-Maine was completed in 1896. Its interlocking cone forms a Roman tiara; the inscription “Dieu aime les Francs” appears at its base, and statues of saints adorn the tower. Anyone interested in architectural history will find a detail here that can be described precisely: the shape, inscription and figures together define the tower’s appearance.

The local vernacular heritage includes restored cellars and winemakers’ houses with external staircases. Together with the church tower, they showcase different architectural forms found in the village. For guidance beyond the village centre, the brochure “Laissez-vous conter Saint Fiacre sur Maine” takes visitors through the villages and to the wine estates. It thus complements a look at individual buildings with a route that also includes villages and wine estates.
