Saint-Colomban is shaped by a bocage landscape of woods, vineyards, rivers and sunken lanes. A viewpoint offers a view over the Boulogne valley; the commune also lies above the Logne valley. Protected natural areas, trails and gardens with a historical background complete the picture. You can choose different focuses for your stay: landscapes, wetlands, a nature trail or walks in a garden.

A wetland with its own natural character

The Bocage Humide des Cailleries Regional Nature Reserve has been classified since 2012, covers 18 hectares and protects a bocage landscape near Lac de Grand-Lieu. There is a footpath on the site; the nature reserve is open to the public free of charge all year round. A visit is therefore not limited to a single season. The recorded biodiversity also makes the area distinctive: 147 plant species and 205 animal species have been recorded on the site. Visitors interested both in protecting a bocage landscape and in its plant and animal life will find both themes in one place.

Water, woods and trails

The Lagunes de Pont-James consist of three ponds that contribute to the development of wildlife and plant life. At the Étang des Mauves, by contrast, there is a jetty specifically provided for fishing. Two picnic tables and a nearby car park add to the facilities for visitors there. The specific highlights therefore differ: the lagoons are notable for their ponds and the development of nature, while fishing and a picnic break are among the options at the Étang.

The Chouette Sentier is a 4.3-kilometre nature trail. Its length gives you a clear point of reference if you would like to include a walking route in your plans. In the south of the commune lies the Bois du Pay Milon, a 12-hectare wooded area with oaks and pines around thirty years old. In addition to its size, the tree species and their approximate age help define the character of this woodland.

Gardens and local discoveries

The Jardins de la Cure are located in the commune of Saint-Colomban. They were once owned by the church; today they are an accessible and pleasant place for walks. Distinctive features include a masonry pond, a charming canopy and a high stone wall. The wooded area extends at the foot of the former presbytery, which now houses a library. The garden thus combines its appeal for walks with a history that can be seen in the named buildings and garden features.

La Ferme de Rublé offers another local highlight. At its farm shop, the farm sells organic dairy products and organic meat directly, as well as seasonal organic fruit and vegetables. The seasonal produce gives the offering a different focus from the nature trails and gardens: here, you can discover local organic produce and take the season into account when shopping.

The different features can help you choose activities: the nature reserve offers a footpath that is free to use all year round, the Chouette Sentier has a stated route length, and the Étang des Mauves has a fishing jetty. The Jardins de la Cure offer walks in a historic garden setting. This lets you shape your time in Saint-Colomban around what matters to you on your trip—nature, a trail, fishing, a garden or a farm shop.
