Explore Rezé through its architecture, archaeology and historically shaped neighbourhoods. Maison Radieuse represents Le Corbusier’s housing design of the 1950s; at Saint-Lupien, a long history of settlement meets Gallo-Roman traces; Trentemoult retains the character of its old street layout. When planning your visit, you can focus on culture, townscape or activity.
Maison Radieuse: Le Corbusier’s vertical village
Maison Radieuse was designed by the famous architect Le Corbusier in the 1950s. A vertical village, it comprises 294 apartments and six internal streets. It has been classified as a historic monument since 2001. Tours organised by the City of Rezé give visitors access to the 1955 show apartment, one of the internal streets and the rooftop terrace with panoramic views. The tour combines a look inside an actual apartment, part of the building’s internal structure and the view from the rooftop terrace. If you would like to include this in your itinerary, check the city’s schedule in advance.
Saint-Lupien: Chapel and archaeology
Saint-Lupien Chapel was built in the late 15th or early 16th century on a site that has been continuously inhabited since antiquity. Its architectural history is therefore connected to a much longer history of settlement. Le Chronographe is located on the Saint-Lupien site, at the centre of the archaeological site, which contains remains from the Gallo-Roman period. The archaeological interpretation centre offers insights into Ratiatum and the history of Rezé. It uses finds from excavations, models and interactive animations. The historical span thus runs from antiquity to the construction of the chapel, while Ratiatum has its own archaeological focus at the centre.
Trentemoult: History in the street layout
Trentemoult-les-Isles comprises former islands once inhabited by fishermen and later by sailors, including famous Cape Horners. To this day, the neighbourhood retains the charm of its old street layout, which walkers appreciate. The traditional fishermen’s houses are generally three storeys high—a distinctive architectural feature of the neighbourhood. A farmers’ market is held at Trentemoult marina every Saturday morning. Market details may change, so check the information before your visit.
Walks and sporting options
Parc de Praud has a freely accessible introductory disc golf course with six baskets. Rezé also has three orienteering courses open to everyone, with several difficulty levels. The different formats can help you choose: the disc golf course is designed as an introduction, while orienteering offers several difficulty levels.
A different perspective awaits on a walk along the banks of the Sèvre in Rezé, which passes a very peaceful meadow of about 18 hectares. Alongside architecture and sporting activities, this offers a landscape walk as another option.
