There are two ways to discover Paris 17 Batignolles-Monceau: focus on the market and urban gardens, or follow the arrondissement’s green paths. The Marché couvert des Batignolles, Square des Batignolles, Parc Clichy-Batignolles – Martin Luther King and Promenade Pereire are destinations in their own right. Your accommodation should suit the places you actually want to visit. Being in the 17th arrondissement does not guarantee a particular walking time, transport connection or room availability.

Batignolles between the Market and the Water

In the heart of the Batignolles neighbourhood, the covered market offers a wide variety of shops. Its façades were redesigned in 2018 by muralists Jaw, Seth, Pastel and Ratur. The market thus combines an everyday local visit with visible contemporary art. If you plan to visit particular shops, check their current opening hours rather than assuming the market hall will be open on your travel date.

Square des Batignolles tells an older story of urban greenery. It is one of the 24 gardens laid out by Alphand during the Second Empire at the request of Napoleon III. A stream rises there by a rocky waterfall, flows through the rocks and empties into a round basin. The water is described as home to carp and goldfish, as well as a colony of ducks. If you mainly want to experience the market and the square, you can use both as reference points when looking for accommodation; plan a direct route between them separately.

A Modern Park with a Biotope Pond

At ten hectares, Parc Clichy-Batignolles – Martin Luther King is on a different scale from the historic square. Its 3,000-square-metre biotope pond contains aquatic and waterside plants such as water lilies, irises, reeds and flowering rushes. Two play areas for children and young people are described, including a skatepark, basketball court, ball wall and ball court. This combination may shape a trip focused on urban greenery and physical activity. Before planning a specific activity, check the site’s current conditions of use; the park description does not establish any features of an accommodation.

The park also contains a stele commemorating Jewish infants who died during deportation. It is associated with the Association pour la Mémoire des Enfants juifs Déportés des 17e Arrondissements. The park therefore brings together nature, recreation and a solemn place of remembrance. Visitors should treat this part of the site with respect and not confuse it with the play areas.

Two Linear Paths with Different Features

Promenade Pereire runs from Place du Maréchal Juin to Porte Maillot. It consists of seven landscaped sections, some open and some enclosed. Works by Boris Lejeune accompany the route. For an art-focused walk, the named endpoints provide clear orientation; they do not indicate the walking time from your accommodation.

Petite Ceinture du 17e offers a different type of route. Its 0.7-kilometre section runs from Rue de Saussure to Rue Alphonse de Neuville. A gravel path for walking runs between existing railway tracks. The short length describes this path, not the additional distance from a hotel or holiday rental. For specific planning, check access and current conditions.

A Historical Counterpoint

Cimetière des Batignolles was established in 1833 for the deceased of the then municipality of Batignolles-Monceau. It covers around eleven hectares and contains 15,000 graves; 812 trees from 47 species provide shade. Paul Verlaine is buried in the 20th division. A visit sets a different tone from a market or park and may be especially relevant for travellers with an interest in literature. The small Square Demours offers another historical reference: it preserves traces of the 18th-century Château des Ternes, including a sightline to Rue Bayen and fragments of the gardens.

Choose Accommodation to Suit Your Stay

Choose your focus: Batignolles with its market and square, the large park, or the two paths. For a trip focused on literary and local history, add the cemetery and Square Demours. Then compare specific accommodation addresses in relation to these destinations and check current offers for your dates. The Paris overview helps put the arrondissement in context; prices, amenities and availability are listed by the relevant hotel or holiday rental.
