Varengeville-Sur-Mer offers several points of interest for a stay: sacred art, coastal scenery, a garden with a national hydrangea collection and a museum. When planning your visit, it is worth considering what makes each place distinctive. The path to the chapel is small and barely visible, a visit to Jardin Shamrock takes a specified amount of time, and Le Bois des Moutiers welcomes visitors by reservation only.

Art at Chapelle Saint-Dominique

The choir of Chapelle Saint-Dominique features three stained-glass windows donated by Georges Braque. Visitors can also see a painting by Maurice Denis from 1916 there. This means the same chapel houses two different works of art: Braque’s windows and Denis’s dated painting. A small, barely visible path leads to the chapel from the road at the entrance to the village when coming from the direction of Hautot-sur-Mer. Access depends on local conditions; bear this in mind when planning your visit.

Seaside Cemetery and Scenic Trail

Église Saint-Valéry and the seaside cemetery sit on a steep slope about 80 metres above the sea. The famous artist Georges Braque is buried on the grounds. In Varengeville-Sur-Mer, Braque is therefore connected with two different places: the windows he donated at Chapelle Saint-Dominique and his grave beside the church and cemetery.

The Les Trois Gorges de l’Ailly circular trail leads from the church and seaside cemetery towards the sea, through valleys, forests and open stretches of land. It was created to help visitors discover the landscapes of Varengeville-Sur-Mer. The route shifts the focus from the steep slope to a trail through a variety of landscapes. No walking time or difficulty rating is specified.

Garden and Exhibitions

Jardin Shamrock is home to the French national hydrangea collection (CCVS). You can explore the garden independently at any time; the visit takes 60 minutes. Check the seasonal information before your visit. The hydrangea collection gives the garden a clear botanical focus, setting it apart from the artworks in the chapel and museum.

The Musée Michel Ciry displays Michel Ciry’s often large-scale paintings in a contemporary exhibition space that opens onto the garden. The museum also hosts several temporary exhibitions by invited artists. Here, the often large-scale works of a named artist are shown alongside changing contributions from invited artists.

Another historical connection is the design of Manoir d’Ango: around 1530, the famous Dieppe shipowner Jehan Ango planned to build it on his estates in Varengeville-Sur-Mer.

Plan Your Visits Ahead

Le Bois des Moutiers welcomes visitors by prior reservation only. For 2026, check the official access information before travelling. This differs from Jardin Shamrock, which can be explored independently at any time: a reservation is required for Le Bois des Moutiers, while the garden allows for a self-guided visit. Check the seasonal visitor information for the garden as well.
