A view of ships entering the port of Le Havre goes hand in hand with a rich coastal history in Sainte-Adresse. At the Belvedere, visitors can use an information board to watch the ships coming into port. Other highlights include seasonal water sports, opportunities for walking and cycling at Plage de Sainte-Adresse, and architectural and maritime heritage. This makes it easy to choose a focus when planning your trip: the coast and outdoor activities, history, or events tied to specific times of year.

Experience the coast: views, sport and outdoor activities

At the Belvedere, the focus is on port traffic: from there, you can watch ships entering the port of Le Havre and use the information board. This is a well-defined attraction for anyone who would rather observe maritime activity than head out onto the water themselves.

The Point Nautique offers water sports to the public during the summer season and into September. Activities include stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking and windsurfing. The offering is seasonal, so check before your trip whether it will be available when you visit. Sainte-Adresse is also known as a spot for board sports.

At Plage de Sainte-Adresse, the promenade leads to the coastal area of Bout du Monde. You can go for a run on the beach or enjoy a leisurely bike ride. This gives you a choice of land-based activities as well as water sports; the options differ both in the type of activity and in the season when they are available.

The chapel and maritime heritage

Chapelle Notre-Dame-des-Flots is a sanctuary dedicated to the Virgin Mary and a pilgrimage site for sailors. Théodore Huchon designed the chapel in the Neo-Gothic style, and it was consecrated on 11 September 1859. Its architecture and religious significance go hand in hand: the building combines a clearly defined style with a special dedication.

Within Chapelle Notre-Dame-des-Flots is the Chapel of Saint-Henri, a memorial to the Borgès de Silveira family. Their family coat of arms and patron saints are depicted in the stained-glass windows and beneath the altar. These details give the interior a specific commemorative purpose that goes beyond the sanctuary's general dedication.

The Pain de Sucre is another maritime memorial. Madame Lefebvre-Desnouettes had it built in memory of her husband, who died in a shipwreck off the Irish coast on 22 April 1822. The navigation marker was intended to help sailors identify the coastline. The monument thus brings together a personal remembrance, a precisely dated event and a practical function for seafarers.

The Nice Havrais seaside district also tells the story of the town's architectural development. Georges Dufayel laid it out between the foot of the Falaise de la Hève and the sea. This description offers a distinct architectural perspective on Sainte-Adresse, alongside the religious and maritime themes of the chapel and the Pain de Sucre.

Events and when to visit

If you would like to combine your visit with an event, keep an eye on the dates for the 10km de Sainte-Adresse and the Dixie-Days. The 10km de Sainte-Adresse traditionally takes place on the last Sunday in June; check the exact date for your travel year. The Dixie-Days take place every year over the Pentecost weekend, with parades at various locations in Sainte-Adresse and Le Havre, as well as evening concerts. Check the event dates and programme for your planned visit.

The maritime attractions offer different perspectives: at the Belvedere, you can watch ships in the port; at the Pain de Sucre, the focus is on remembrance and how sailors once used the coastline for navigation. The Point Nautique, by contrast, offers hands-on water sports and is seasonal. You can choose your focus according to whether you would rather observe, explore maritime history or take part in activities yourself.
