A historic forge, an exhibition on clog-making and recurring festivals are among the special reasons to visit Saint-Cornier-des-Landes. The commune also has a circular walking trail. For planning your trip, the museum days and dates of seasonal events are especially important: each offers a different focus, and they do not all fall on the same possible days of your stay.

Blacksmithing and clog-making

The Musée du Clou is housed in an authentic 18th-century forge. The forge that now houses the museum was the last one still operating in Saint-Cornier-des-Landes. Demonstrations show how different types of nails are forged. The focus is therefore on both the historic building and a specific craft process.

The Maison du Sabotier is dedicated to clog-making. There you can see a clog-making machine, finished clog models and a collection of clogs from different origins. A film lasting around 20 minutes explains the history of clog-makers and their working methods. Together, the exhibition and film offer insights into the objects, their production and the history of the craft, without requiring the same kind of visit as a blacksmithing demonstration.

The Musée du Clou and the Maison du Sabotier are open from June to September on Friday afternoons from 2 to 5 p.m. At other times, groups are welcomed by appointment. If you are planning a museum visit, check the opening hours or arrange an appointment in advance for your travel dates.

A monument on the edge of the village

On the edge of the village, beyond the school in the direction of Yvrandes, stands the Monument Notre Dame de la Salette. Residents built it to thank the Virgin Mary for her protection during the bombings of the Second World War. Its location and history give the monument a clear local connection: it commemorates a specific experience of the community and the gratitude associated with it.

Circular trail and planning your time

Sur les pas des cloutiers is a circular walking trail in the commune, approximately six kilometres long. The average walking time is given as around one hour and 30 minutes. Check current trail conditions before setting out. The time given for the approximately 20-minute film and the average walking time for the loop relate to different activities. They help you plan suitable time for the museum visit and the trail, rather than treating them as outings of equal length.

Festivals at different times of year

Puces Moto takes place every year on the first Sunday in May in the village centre. It includes the sale of vehicles, spare parts and accessories, as well as a decibel contest. Admission for visitors and parking are free; refreshments are available on site. Details may change from one edition to the next. If you want this festival to shape your stay, check the date for the relevant year against your travel dates.

FĂŞte de la Sainte Croix is a traditional festival held once a year for around a hundred years. The festival weekend includes an agricultural show, Olympiads, a flea market, XXL games, free concerts and several dinner dances. The programme may change from year to year, so for planning purposes the specific festival date matters more than assuming it takes place at a fixed time of year.

For the annual Illuminations, volunteers decorate the town together to take part in the Villes et Villages Illuminés competition. Visitors can admire the decorations throughout December; seasonal dates may vary from one edition to the next. This creates different reasons to visit throughout the year: a date in May for Puces Moto, the Sainte Croix weekend or the illuminations in December.

Choose the right time to visit

When looking for a holiday rental, you can first decide whether the craft heritage, the circular trail or a particular festival is your main reason for visiting. This makes it easier to coordinate your stay with the relevant opening hours and event dates, without assuming that every trip follows the same schedule. This is especially worthwhile for a short stay: check that your chosen reason for visiting coincides with your actual travel dates. That way, you can explore Saint-Cornier-des-Landes with a focus on what interests you most.
