In Courgeon, two distinct themes for exploration come together: the Catholic Church of Notre-Dame et Saint-Santin and cycling routes that pass through the village. A historic baptismal font adds a cultural dimension; the routes range from an easy mountain bike trail to a difficult circuit. For your stay, you can decide whether to focus on culture or cycling—or plan both as separate activities.

Church and Baptismal Font

Notre-Dame et Saint-Santin is a Romanesque-classical church built between 1618 and 1633. The baptismal font in Courgeon’s parish church, by contrast, dates from the 15th century. The two therefore represent different periods: the church’s construction and the much older font.

The baptismal font was designated a protected historic object on July 28, 1904. Its shape and ornamentation give it a distinctive character: it is an octagonal basin with folded panels and projecting tracery struts with hooks. Rings supported by lion heads are also part of its design. For visitors interested in culture, Courgeon offers this specific art-historical detail alongside the church building, and it can be viewed independently of the cycling routes.

Mountain Bike Routes Through Courgeon

Le Mont Ligeon passes through Courgeon, as well as La Chapelle-Montligeon, Corbon, Maison-Maugis and Saint-Victor-de-Réno. This 13.9-kilometre mountain bike route is rated easy; less than a quarter of it is on paved roads. Its length, difficulty rating and proportion of paved surfaces can help you decide in advance whether it suits your preferences.

La vallée de la Commeauche also passes through Courgeon, but covers additional municipalities: La Chapelle-Montligeon, Corbon, Maison-Maugis, Saint-Victor-de-Réno, Boissy-Maugis, Bizou and Monceaux-au-Perche. This difficult 32.2-kilometre mountain bike loop is intended for experienced riders. Viewpoints along the route add to its appeal. Compared with Le Mont Ligeon, the two routes differ considerably in both length and stated difficulty.

Route details, difficulty ratings and surface conditions may be changed by the route managers. Check the latest route information before setting off.

Another Cycling Tour and a Place to Stop

The Dites-le avec des fleurs cycling loop starts in Boissy-Maugis and is 25.3 kilometres long. It follows a Greenway and quiet country roads and is marked with route sign number 4. This tour is another option if you are looking for a different loop from the two routes that pass through Courgeon; however, it starts in Boissy-Maugis.

The cycling loop is accessible via the regional NOMAD bus network, route 417; there is no access by SNCF train. Since transport information is subject to change, check the latest timetable before travelling. The Café de la Place in Courgeon is also popular with cyclists as a place to stop. If you plan to visit, check in advance whether it is currently open.

When choosing where to stay, you can weigh up a clear choice: would you rather focus on local architectural and art history, or let the route you choose shape your day? For the two routes that pass through Courgeon, distance and difficulty provide a concrete basis for comparison; Dites-le avec des fleurs, by contrast, starts in Boissy-Maugis and requires you to plan your journey around the timetable.
