Siouville combines watersports at Plage de Siouville-Hague with the Hague dune massif and distinctive traces of local history. The municipality offers different points of interest for these pursuits.
Coast, surf spot and nautical activities
Plage de Siouville-Hague is a surf spot where surfing, windsurfing and kitesurfing are practised. The Cotentin Surf Club offers supervised introductions to and lessons in surfing in Siouville. The club’s seasonal availability may change; check before your trip. This distinguishes two aspects of watersports: several activities at the surf spot, and a supervised programme specifically focused on surfing.
The GR223 also reaches the coast on arriving in Siouville-Hague. Check trail conditions before setting out. Port Diélette, a marina with almost 500 berths, is nearby. Following the GR223 south, you can reach it on foot in about 20 minutes; walking time may vary depending on trail conditions. At the port, the Centre nautique de Port Diélette offers dinghy and catamaran courses, as well as sea kayaking. If you plan to take a course, check its availability before your trip. The port thus adds other nautical activities to the watersports available in Siouville.
At the lifeguard station on Plage de Siouville-Hague, amphibious equipment for bathing is available in summer for people with reduced mobility. The beach holds Handiplage Level II certification. Before your trip, check the seasonal availability of the equipment and the latest information about signage and facilities.
Dune landscape and country lanes
The protected Dunes de Biville area also includes Siouville-Hague and is part of the “Massif dunaire de Héauville à Vauville” Natura 2000 site. The Dunes de Biville dune massif covers 707 hectares and extends for eight kilometres; its perched dunes reach 114 metres above sea level. These figures describe different measurements: 707 hectares is the area, eight kilometres is the extent, and 114 metres is the height of the perched dunes. The Hague dune massif begins at the end of Siouville-Hague beach and stretches towards Héauville.
Siouville’s country lanes include routes along the sea and through wooded areas. Siouville has 39 country lanes in total; their names often refer to the municipality’s history. The routes thus bring together different landscapes and historical connections, without all the lanes passing through the same surroundings.
Heritage walk and recreation area
The Chemin du patrimoine is a 5.8-kilometre circular walk through the municipality’s heritage. It starts at Salle du Temple, and six information panels line the route. Its length, starting point and panels provide clear reference points if you want to explore local history on foot.
Pont-Helland is a recreation area where you can fish, try an exercise trail and have a picnic. While the Chemin du patrimoine is a circular walk through local heritage, Pont-Helland brings together various leisure activities in one place. These are two different ways to spend time outdoors: one focused on local history, the other on fishing, exercise or a picnic break.
Architectural history and local character
The Maison Coquillage is decorated with thousands of shells. In the garden, sea creatures and seabirds adorn the grounds. The Manoir du Valciot stands on Chemin des Costils, in an elevated position overlooking the sea. It was probably built towards the end of the 16th century; this approximate dating remains part of its history.
The Église Saint-Pierre de Siouville has a square tower topped with a granite dome on an octagonal base. The Protestant temple in Siouville was inaugurated on 4 December 1842. Stone walls are also part of the local character: numerous walls run through the municipality of Siouville-Hague and are typical of the Hague landscape. Together, these architectural and landscape features show different aspects of local history, from individual buildings to the walls that cross the municipality.
