Rural paths and “caches” offer views of the Côte des Isles to the south and the Bocage valognais to the north. The commune’s cultural heritage includes the Église Saint-Pierre, other religious sites and the “Les pierres de nos campagnes” trail. The Maubrairie gardens are another option for a visit, but only on certain days in 2026. These different highlights can be considered separately when planning your trip.

Bocage Landscape and Views

There are still four dairy farms in the commune, helping to preserve its bocage hedgerows and pastures. This makes farming one of the area’s defining landscape features. Rural paths and “caches” run through Saint-Pierre-D'arthéglise, offering views of the Côte des Isles to the south and the Bocage valognais to the north. The two directions provide a clear reference for the views described: the Côte des Isles to the south and the Bocage valognais to the north. Hedgerows and pastures add the agricultural dimension of the commune to these vistas.

Church Art and Local History

The Église Saint-Pierre dates from the 12th to 14th centuries and was altered in the 19th century. Its building history therefore spans both the medieval period and a later renovation. The church preserves sculptures known as “Education de la Vierge”, “Flagellation” and “Trinité”. Sainte-Anne, also called “l’Education de la Vierge”, is a stone work from the 15th century. The names and dating offer several specific points of interest in the church’s art.

Other sites offer a different perspective. The Fontaine Saint-Ortaire in the hamlet of Les Fontaines has a statue of the saint beneath a protective structure. The Statue de la Vierge Marie in the village centre was erected in 1944 after the Liberation. The Chapelle Notre-Dame de Boulogne was founded around 1947 by Father Armand Bihel. The fountain, statue of the Virgin Mary and chapel thus differ from the sculptures in the Église Saint-Pierre both in form and in their individual histories.

The “Les pierres de nos campagnes” trail leads to rural heritage sites such as washhouses, fountains, covered structures, stone houses and heathland. Unlike the individual works of art in the church, it draws attention to a broader range of architectural and landscape features. This offers two distinct ways to explore the area’s heritage: the named sculptures in the Église Saint-Pierre and the various features along the trail.

Gardens with 2026 Opening Days

Les Jardins de la Maubrairie are open to the public on certain days in 2026. Check the specific opening days before your visit. The visits are unguided, but Stéphane is present in the garden to talk with visitors. If you plan to visit the gardens, take both the date and the unguided format into account.

Local Cider Products

Natural farm cider, cider aperitif and cider vinegar are made locally in Saint-Pierre-D'arthéglise and offered for sale. The three products provide different purchasing options, from cider to aperitif and vinegar. If you would like to buy any of them, check availability directly with the producer before travelling.
