Réville combines 7.3 kilometres of coastline with numerous beaches, horse riding and water sports, as well as a trail and listed buildings. The coast is the clear focus; horse riding, water sports and heritage offer different points of interest when planning your stay. You can consider these themes separately when choosing excursions, or prioritise them according to your interests.
Coast and Swimming Information
Réville has 7.3 kilometres of coastline with numerous beaches. The water quality at the beaches is considered very good and is regularly checked by laboratories approved by ARS. At the same time, there is no lifeguard supervision when swimming at the beaches. These are two different aspects: the checks concern water quality and do not mean that lifeguard supervision is available. Since water quality can change, check local notices before swimming.
Horse Riding and Water Sports
The Centre équestre du Val de Saire welcomes visitors year-round for introductory horse riding and further equestrian training. Riding lessons are offered to adults and children at all levels. There are also rides through the countryside and along the beach. This means you can choose between lessons and rides as different ways to enjoy equestrian activities. If you are planning a lesson or a ride, it is best to ask about dates and availability in advance.
The Centre Nautique Est Cotentin offers sailing, stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, courses and other water sports activities for all ages and skill levels. This gives you a choice of several specific sports, as well as courses and other activities. If you have a particular activity or course in mind, check the current schedule: offerings and timings may change.
The “Terre nourricière” Trail
The “Terre nourricière” trail is marked in yellow. Its starting point at the “Réville – Eglise” bus stop is accessible via the Cap Cotentin bus network. This means you can include the starting point in a journey by bus. Check current services before setting off, as bus services may change. The information about the trail markings and accessible starting point can help with planning without assuming a walking time or route length.
Historic Buildings and Their Protected Areas
The Chapelle Saint-Eloi has been fully listed as a historic monument since 23 October 1997. The Manoir de Réville has been partially protected since 5 September 1997. This protection covers the façades and roofs of the château and outbuildings, the dovecote, the entrance gate and its pillars, and the wolf pits. The two listings therefore differ both in scope and in the building features specified.
The former redoubt has been partially listed as a historic monument since 6 July 1992. It is protected in its entirety, including its ditches, with the exception of the guardhouse within them. The church in Réville has also been partially classified as a historic monument, since 29 January 1923. Excluded are the modern section of the north aisle beside the choir, the sacristy and the Sacred Heart chapel. The protected buildings therefore each include or exclude different areas.
Archaeological Traces at Pointe de la Loge
Réville’s archaeological history is also part of its historic interest. Excavations of a so-called “barbarian” cemetery at Pointe de la Loge have been linked to the settlement of Saxon tribes along the coast of the Cotentin. Together with the listed buildings, this connection offers a different perspective on the town’s past: here, the focus is not on the protection of façades or parts of buildings, but on excavations and a historical link to the settlement of the coast.
