In Lingreville, nature and local history come together: the landscape includes the dunes and the Havre de la Vanlée; the area’s architectural history stretches from a church dedicated to Saint Martin to the remains of the Château de Lingreville. Two routes are almost the same length, but their descriptions highlight different features. Direct sales of vegetables at two local addresses round out the picture.

Dunes and the Havre de la Vanlée

The dunes of Lingreville are designated a type 1 ZNIEFF area and have been classified as a Natura 2000 site since 2004. The Havre de la Vanlée is also classified as a Natura 2000 site. It extends across Lingreville, Bréhal and Bricqueville-sur-Mer. The two natural features therefore also differ in their geographical scale: the dunes are associated with Lingreville, while the havre spans three communes.

Choose routes by landscape and itinerary

The 22-kilometre “À l’ombre des dunes” hiking route links coastal and bocage landscapes and passes through Lingreville, Annoville, Hauteville and Montmartin. The 21-kilometre “Circuit des maraîchers” runs through Annoville and Lingreville. There is only one kilometre between the two routes. Their itineraries and landscape features are therefore more useful for choosing between them than their lengths: the first route’s description includes two landscape types and four places, while the second passes through two places.

Another natural highlight is Route des havres circuit no. 7. In the Lingreville area, it offers extensive, lightly frequented areas where you can immerse yourself in wild and protected nature. As route conditions can change, check the current itinerary before planning.

Take the tides into account when travelling

Route 375 crosses the Havre de la Vanlée and can be flooded at high tide. If you plan to cross here, check the tide level beforehand.

Church and castle remains: traces of different periods

The church of Lingreville is dedicated to Saint Martin and dates from the 13th century. Its double transept was created during alterations in 1864–1865. The church’s date and the creation of the double transept therefore belong to different building phases.

The Château de Lingreville was built by the Belin family in the 17th century and demolished in 1976. The ruins of two large dovecotes and the perimeter wall remain. The church’s architectural history is shaped by its dedication, origins and later alterations; the castle’s construction and surviving remains help place it in time.

Direct sales of vegetables

Two addresses make direct sales of vegetables a practical point to consider when planning your trip. La P'tite Coop is an organic vegetable-growing cooperative that sells directly to customers at Rue du 30 Juillet 44, 50660 Lingreville. Vegetable grower Stéphane LEGRAND offers direct sales from the farm at 1 route de la Roncette, 50660 Lingreville. Opening hours and sales arrangements may change; check that sales are taking place before visiting.
