Blainville Sur Mer combines coastal scenery with natural and cultural heritage. In addition to supervised and unspoiled beaches, local highlights include wetlands, water and agriculture, and maritime history. So the beach is not the only factor to consider when planning your trip: wildlife, landscapes, land use and shellfish farming may also influence your decision.

Coast, Estuary and Wetlands

The coast has both supervised and unspoiled beaches. Supervision may vary depending on the season. If supervised beach areas are important to you, check the current situation before your visit.

The Havre de Blainville-sur-Mer covers more than 500 hectares between the municipalities of Blainville-sur-Mer and Agon-Coutainville. The Blainville-sur-Mer estuary is designated a Natura 2000 site and is a protected natural landscape with exceptional wildlife and plant life.

At the Polder de Blainville-sur-Mer, information panels explain its origins, water management and present-day agricultural use. If you want to understand the landscape as a place shaped by human activity, you’ll find here a concrete look at both its origins and the role of water and agriculture today.

La Mare aux grenouilles is a natural wetland with information panels about its wildlife and plant life. The site also has shaded picnic tables, a handy addition for a break. As these facilities may change, check before your visit whether the tables are available. Unlike the polder, this site focuses on wetlands and wildlife.

Maritime History and Shellfish Farming

The current building of the Chapelle des Marins dates from the late 14th or early 15th century. The chapel is dedicated to the Virgin Mary and Saint Philibert, the patron saint of seafarers. It contains numerous votive offerings dedicated to the sea and its seafarers. Its construction date, dedication and votive offerings give the building a clear maritime connection, linking religious heritage with seafaring.

The Coopérative d’Aquaculture de Basse-Normandie is a shellfish-farming centre where oysters are prepared for onshore cultivation. A two-part visit includes an exhibition about shellfish farming and a tour of the facility. This means the visit focuses both on the subject and on the operation itself. Check in advance whether a reservation is required, as requirements may change.

Different Highlights for Your Stay

The natural and cultural attractions offer different highlights: the Havre is a landscape covering more than 500 hectares, while the polder explains its origins and present-day use. La Mare aux grenouilles focuses on a natural wetland and its wildlife. The Chapelle des Marins and the cooperative add maritime history and shellfish farming to these themes. When considering Blainville Sur Mer as a destination, you can decide whether you’re mainly looking for beaches, nature, landscape use or maritime heritage.
