Beaumont-le-Roger offers two clear focal points for a stay: listed religious buildings with long histories of construction and furnishings, and walking trails with specific distances and approximate times. Added to these are its location in the Risle Valley, the Bave and sweeping views from the esplanade of the former priory. You can plan your time according to whether architectural history or a longer walk is your priority.

Churches, Priory and Manor House

The Église Saint-Nicolas was classified as a Monument Historique by decree on 25 August 1909. It is believed to have been founded in the 11th century; the first written mention of it appears in a document dating from 1088 to 1099. Its furnishings include classified 16th-century stained-glass windows, modern windows by Max Ingrand and Michel Durand, and twenty wooden or stone statues dating from the 15th to the 17th century. The bell tower contains “Régulus”, a figure depicting a Roman general. The Jacquemart in the bell tower has struck the hour every hour since 1826.

At the Prieuré de la Sainte Trinité, the surviving entrance gallery and church remains date from the 13th century. The priory has been classified as a Monument Historique since 1916. Historically, it was a Benedictine priory affiliated with the Abbey of Bec-Hellouin. The esplanade offers sweeping views of Beaumont-le-Roger and the Risle Valley.

The Manoir du Hom is an architectural complex featuring a triple row of moats, pavilions dating from the late 16th to early 17th century, and long timber-framed buildings that house the stables. The manor house can only be seen from the path leading to the Fontaine Ă  Roger fish farm. Those interested in the area's architectural history will find a different focus here than at the religious buildings: the complex is defined by its moats, pavilions and timber framing.

The area's ancient history is also in view: the rural sanctuary of Fanum de Saint-Marc and numerous remains still visible in the forest attest to the Gallo-Roman presence in the Beaumont-le-Roger area.

Walking Trails by Time and Interest

The blue-marked “Circuit n° 1 – nature et Patrimoine” is 12.2 kilometres long and takes about 3 hours and 15 minutes. It is considered easy for hikers, cyclists and horse riders. A shorter option is “Circuit n° 4 – le Hom”: it is also marked in blue, measures 9.8 kilometres, takes about 2 hours and 45 minutes, and starts at the town hall. Based on the approximate times, the second walk takes around 30 minutes less than the first; it is 2.4 kilometres shorter by distance.

The “Circuit n° 5 – la Chapelle Saint-Marc” follows the GR 224 for part of its route, along the former road to Bernay. This adds a historical route connection to the other two trails, for which distances and times are provided. The three routes can therefore be considered according to different criteria: their stated duration and length, or their connection to a former road.

Landscape and Practical Information

Beaumont-le-Roger is located in the Risle Valley. The Bave is one of the two waterways that flow through the town. The view from the priory esplanade offers a different perspective on the surrounding area, taking in both Beaumont-le-Roger and the Risle Valley. These geographical features complement the buildings and walking trails with a landscape perspective, without requiring a particular route.

The Parc Chantereine offers tennis, kayaking and games for children. The park therefore provides additional activities alongside the historic sights and marked walking trails.

For motorhome travellers, the Aire de camping-car des Planchettes has ten pitches and a service point with connections for wastewater, grey water, water and electricity. It is a five-minute walk from the town centre. Check the information on pitches and connections before you arrive. This lets you include this practical stop in your plans without confusing it with the cultural sights or walking trails.
