Saint-Pierre-Du-Jonquet offers clear points of interest for those interested in cultural history: its church and memorial to the massacre victims. Château du Jonquet opens up another subject through its architecture, furnishings, and garden. It lies near Beuvron-en-Auge, opposite the Dives marshes.

Church: Construction Phase and Listed Status

The main construction phase of the church of Saint-Pierre-Du-Jonquet dates to 1757. Its dome with a small lantern is considered typical of 18th-century architecture. The date and design thus offer different clues to the history of the church.

By decree of 30 December 1986, the church was listed as a historic monument, including the stone reredos permanently attached to the masonry. The dates refer to two different aspects: 1757 marks the main construction phase, while 1986 marks the listing. The reredos is expressly included as an architecturally integrated part of the protected church.

Commemoration of the Victims of 1944

The memorial to the victims of the Saint-Pierre-Du-Jonquet massacre commemorates civilians from Dives and Cabourg who were murdered in July 1944. It was inaugurated on 11 November 1957. The dates record both the event and the later inauguration of the memorial. As of 8 January 2026, admission is free.

Château du Jonquet: Rooms and Garden

Château du Jonquet was built in the 18th century as a “maison des champs” (country house), a summer residence for a shipowner from Honfleur. Its location near Beuvron-en-Auge, opposite the Dives marshes, provides a distinctive point of reference in the landscape.

The billiard room features a panoramic wallpaper depicting ancient Greece. It dates from the early 19th century and was made by the Dufour manufactory in Paris. By decree of 12 December 1996, the billiard room, including its furnishings and wallpaper, was classified as a historic monument. The room thus brings together furnishings from the early 19th century and a later protected status.

The French garden is enclosed by walls. Yew borders, topiary, and flower beds of white blooms define its design. The courtyard of honour is distinct: it is also enclosed by walls, and lined with rows of lime trees. The flower beds and topiary belong to the garden; the rows of lime trees belong to the courtyard.

A guided tour of the exterior and interior presents the original room layout and decorations that have been preserved. The tour is led by the owner or a family member. If you plan to visit the interior, ask about an appointment in advance.
