Condé-sur-Noireau brings together themes of printing history, art and local remembrance, alongside church architecture, a municipal park and a section of La Vélo Francette. Two museums focus on printing techniques, a town model, art and industrial history; the churches add architectural history and distinctive objects of remembrance. Outdoors, the park and its fishing pond offer other activities. When looking for a hotel in Condé-sur-Noireau, it helps to first consider which of these highlights you want to shape your stay.

Printing Techniques and Town History

The Musée de l’imprimerie typographique presents the trades of typesetting and typographic printing using equipment from the early 19th century. Visitors can also see a working Linotype, a Monotype and manual printing presses. The focus is therefore on both the printing trades and specific equipment: the visit draws attention to the work of typesetting and printing, and to the technology involved.

The Espace Musée Charles Léandre complements this technical perspective with art and local history. A 40 m² model depicts Condé-sur-Noireau before the bombings of 6 June 1944. An original scenography and an interactive tour also explore the artistic world of Charles Léandre. The section on local remembrance uses objects and digital archives to shed light on the town’s industrial past. The museum thus brings together a particular historical view of the town and a distinct perspective on its industrial history.

Church Architecture and Objects of Remembrance

Église Saint Martin is the oldest building in Condé-sur-Noireau. Its Gothic portal dates from the 13th century, and its bell tower from the 15th century. The church houses a Pietà by João Turin, installed in 1917. It serves as a memorial to the 69 men from the Saint-Martin district who died in the First World War.

Église Saint Sauveur offers a different focus: a huge shell brought back by Dumont d’Urville serves as a holy water font and survived the bombings. While Saint Martin combines architectural history with remembrance of men from the district, this single object is the focus at Saint Sauveur. The two churches thus offer different points of interest, from architecture and local remembrance to a distinctive piece of church history.

Park, Fishing and Cycling

Parc Municipal Maurice Piard is a 10 ha municipal park with walking paths, play facilities for children and a bandstand. You can consider these amenities as an outdoor highlight alongside the museums and churches. The park also has a first-category fishing pond. Anglers need a Truite Condéenne or EGHO permit; only one rod is allowed. If you plan to fish, make sure to arrange the appropriate permit and take this restriction into account.

La Vélo Francette adds a cycling option to the area’s attractions. On the section from Pont-d’Ouilly to Condé-sur-Noireau, parts of the route follow small roads shared with other traffic along the Noireau River. This specific route information complements the cultural and park attractions: you can include Condé-sur-Noireau in your travel plans for its museums and churches, Parc Municipal Maurice Piard or the named cycling section.
