Blonville-Sur-Mer offers different ways to shape a trip: the beach, the Marais de Blonville-Villers and historic churches. When choosing accommodation, it may help to think in advance about whether you want to focus mainly on time on the coast, nature or architectural history. The places and routes offer practical starting points for planning, without requiring you to follow a fixed daily itinerary.

Wetlands and birdlife

The Marais de Blonville-Villers lies between Villers-sur-Mer and Blonville-sur-Mer. Covering 110 hectares, it includes wet meadows, canals and ditches. The freshwater marsh is fed by surface runoff from four natural catchment areas. This landscape is classified as a “Zone Naturelle d’Intérêt Faunistique et Floristique” (Natural Zone of Ecological Interest for Fauna and Flora). More than 150 bird species find shelter, food and resting places there—one of the area’s defining natural features.

Around 40 hectares of the marsh are partially protected by the Conservatoire du littoral. The marshland is open to the public free of charge all year round. As access conditions may change, check them again before your visit. This makes it possible to include the natural area as a separate activity without assuming a particular length of stay or route through the area.

Beach: access points and seasonal conditions

The beach at Blonville-sur-Mer is lined with small wooden walkways that run alongside a children’s club and a sailing club. Showers and restroom facilities are also available at the beach; their availability may vary by season. Check before your trip. Beach access is via Rue de Hoinville, Rue Louise, Rue Laforge, Boulevard Marcelle Lechanteur, Rue Pierre Jacquot, Rue Chevalier and Avenue Michel d’Ornano. Free parking is available on the access roads and their side streets. As parking regulations may change seasonally, it is worth checking local parking information before you arrive.

For people with reduced mobility, concrete ramps at Rue Lechanteur and Rue Leclerc provide access to the beach. A Tiralo beach wheelchair is available free of charge at Lifeguard Station 1. These facilities may be seasonal or subject to the beach service’s operating conditions. The stretch of beach on Rue Charles Laforge in front of Lifeguard Station 1 is supervised from July 1 to August 31. If you plan to swim there, check local information in advance.

Churches and architectural history

The Chapelle Notre-Dame de l’Assomption combines modern building techniques and materials with inspiration from medieval cathedral builders. Its frescoes were painted on the cement walls between 1960 and 1962. The Notre-Dame de la Visitation church in Blonville-Terre offers a different historical perspective: its history spans almost a thousand years, and part of its bell tower dates from the 12th century. The oldest parts are considered to be the bases of the bell tower and choir; they are dated to the 11th and 13th centuries, without assigning either date to a specific base.

The association for the Notre-Dame de la Visitation church offers tours in summer. As seasonal availability may change, check the dates for your travel period. The two religious buildings offer different points of interest: the Chapelle highlights the combination of modern techniques with medieval inspiration, while the church in Blonville-Terre stands out for its long history and dated architectural features.

A walking route to the church

A route description updated on December 23, 2024, lists “Mer, marais, église de Blonville Terre” as a very easy 8-kilometer walk with an approximate duration of 2 hours and 15 minutes. The route starts at Blonville-sur-Mer Tourisme and ends at the Notre-Dame de la Visitation church in Blonville-Terre. It offers a practical way to combine a church visit with a walk; the stated duration is a guide for planning.
