Churches from different centuries, Neolithic traces, a protected park and golf give Biéville-Beuville a range of distinct highlights. The town’s history is reflected not only in individual buildings: an early written mention, a conversion into a fortress and archaeological harbor structures are also part of the story. When planning your stay, you can decide whether you are particularly interested in church architecture, historic landscapes or golf.

Churches with layers from different periods

The Église Notre-Dame de Biéville is a Romanesque church dating from the 11th and 12th centuries. Its earliest recorded mention dates from 1080 and appears in the so-called Montgomery charter. In 1364, during the Hundred Years’ War, the church was converted into a fortress. Its construction period, early mention and later fortification thus mark different stages in its history.

The Église Saint-Pierre also dates back to the 11th century. It was extensively remodeled in the 17th and 19th centuries. By comparison, the recorded milestones for Notre-Dame are defined not only by its construction period but also by its mention in 1080 and conversion in 1364. Visitors interested in the development of religious buildings will find two churches with distinct historical highlights.

Neolithic traces and landscape

The Mégalithe dit Les Pierres branlantes is a Neolithic megalith. A decree dated May 24, 1958, classified it as a historic monument. The Grande Roche, in turn, is a promontory overlooking the Orne that has been inhabited by people since at least the Neolithic period. The megalith and promontory point to different aspects of early settlement: one is a single prehistoric monument, while the other is a site with a long history of settlement and a connection to the landscape.

Other archaeological features include ancient harbor structures at the foot of an oppidum. The site comprises a quay, low walls, two moles and a stone-paved ramp. These structures give the harbor remains a distinctive place in the town’s history. Together with the churches and Neolithic sites, they offer a selection that spans more than one historical period.

Park and architecture

The Parc du château de Biéville covers ten hectares and has been protected as a classified site by decree dated June 28, 1967. An avenue encircling the park is shaded by old oaks, chestnuts and lime trees. The park is therefore defined not only by its size: its tree species and the route of the avenue are also among its distinctive features.

Another trace of history is the Manoir Balleroy, an 18th-century country house associated with the bourgeoisie of Caen. A decree dated December 27, 1989, listed the rear façade, the corresponding section of roof and the decorated grand salon as historic monuments in part. The listing applies to these specified parts; the town’s history thus includes not only churches and landscapes but also a country house with expressly designated protected features.

Golf as a distinct highlight

The Golf de Caen la mer is located at RD60 – Le Vallon, 14112 Biéville-Beuville. The site covers 92 hectares and has two golf courses and 27 greens. Facilities include a golf school, club rental, golf carts and trolleys, parking, and wheelchair accessibility. Course details and services may change, so check the latest information on facilities and access before visiting.

There are several ways to shape your stay around the town’s attractions: historic churches, prehistoric sites, a classified park landscape, an 18th-century country house and golf. You can choose the focus of your visit based on the subjects that interest you most, then look for a hotel in Biéville-Beuville accordingly.
