Coulomby combines a green landscape of hills and valleys with numerous walking trails, an easy circular cycling route and a church with a layered building history. This gives you several ways to plan a stay: you can focus on getting around on foot or by bike, or explore the history of the local church.

Walking trails through hills and valleys

Coulomby offers numerous walking trails through its green landscape. Hills and valleys shape the character of the scenery described here. If you enjoy exploring on foot, you can consider the area as a walking destination with several trails, rather than planning around a single named route. Your choice between walking and cycling therefore depends mainly on which kind of activity you would like to focus on.

A historical classification of the landscape

The natural park classification is also part of the area's history, but is clearly limited to a specific period: from the publication of the decree on 24 March 2000, Coulomby was one of the municipalities whose territory was classified as a regional nature park under the name “Parc naturel régional des caps et marais d’Opale” for ten years. This historical context adds to the picture of the green surroundings without presenting the former classification as current status.

The easy circular cycling route

The “Liaison douce Coulomby–Lumbres” is an easy, 8.6-kilometre circular cycling route that starts in Coulomby. Its specific length and easy rating give you a useful guide if you are considering cycling as the focus of your stay. The route is easy to distinguish from the walking options: it is described as a single loop with a stated distance, while Coulomby also offers numerous walking trails.

The church’s building history

Coulomby’s church was built in the 15th or 16th century on the foundations of an older structure. Only the base of a Romanesque tower from that earlier building remains. This reveals two distinct periods in the building’s history: the church building from the late Middle Ages or early modern period, and an architectural element dating back to an older Romanesque structure.

Individual features of the church also merit a closer look. The choir is covered by a vault made of white stone. The bell tower is said to have been rebuilt between 1898 and 1900 by the architect Léon Libersalle. A Christ on the Cross, probably dating from the 18th century, stands on the triumphal arch. A door provides access to the sacristy. Together, these details offer insight into different aspects of the building: its older foundations, the design of the choir and later changes to the tower.

Walking events from the 2026 programme

The Pays de Lumbres programme for 2026 listed two dated walking events in Coulomby. “Rando Village #5” was scheduled for 10 August: a guided walk of 10 to 12 kilometres along Coulomby’s trails. It was due to start at the town hall, and participation was free.

The free night-time “Rando Ludik’ nocturne”, covering approximately 10 kilometres, was also scheduled for 17 July 2026. Quiz questions at the trail markers were part of the event. These events were scheduled for specific dates in 2026; if travelling later, check the dates of events announced at that time. When choosing what kind of activity to focus on, you can weigh up an easy 8.6-kilometre cycling loop against two longer, dated walking events.
