The Forêt départementale de Sérénac combines time in the forest with the opportunity to discover the area’s wildlife and plant life. You can explore on foot, by mountain bike or on horseback. For an active adventure, there is also Explorateurs du Tarn, an outdoor treasure hunt that combines physical activity and thinking. Three easy orienteering courses and two hiking trails with different difficulty ratings add to the options: a very easy circular route and a moderately difficult 11-kilometre route. Nature observation, orienteering and hiking offer different ways to spend your time here.

Forest and Nature

Covering around 210 hectares, the Forêt départementale de Sérénac includes both coniferous and deciduous woodland. Common tree species include oaks, red oaks, lime trees and hornbeams; several types of mushrooms also grow here. The birdlife includes five woodpecker species: the European green woodpecker, great spotted woodpecker, lesser spotted woodpecker, middle spotted woodpecker and black woodpecker. A stay in the forest offers more than just one nature theme: you can look out for the variety of trees, mushrooms and different woodpecker species. The area’s wildlife and plant life are also part of walks, mountain-bike rides and horseback outings.

Orienteering with Explorateurs du Tarn

Explorateurs du Tarn turns exploration into an outdoor treasure hunt. Physical activity and thinking go hand in hand; if you want to pair a nature theme with a clear objective, this offers a different approach from a leisurely walk. The programme includes three easy orienteering courses in the Forêt départementale de Sérénac. One easy course for children focuses on biodiversity, as does an easy course for adults, while another easy adult course focuses on forest management. At the same difficulty level, you can choose according to the intended group and the subject. Biodiversity draws attention to the variety of life, while forest management focuses on how the forest is managed. The courses are located in an Espace Naturel Sensible that is open to the public.

Two Trails, Different Outings

The Sentier de découverte de la forêt de Sérénac is a very easy circular route. Between points 3 and 4, it includes a 1.5-kilometre section adapted for people with reduced mobility. These two details are useful for planning in different ways: the difficulty rating applies to the circular route, while the accessibility adaptation applies to the specific section identified. If you are looking for a very easy circular trail, this rating is a useful point of comparison; if mobility is a consideration, the section between points 3 and 4 is also relevant.

The Sentier de la Méridienne offers a different kind of outing: it is a moderately difficult, 11-kilometre hiking route. From the Plateau de Sérénac, it descends into the Tarn valley and forms a loop around the Méridienne verte. The difficulty and distance are both specified, which is useful if you want to choose a hike with a set length. The right option depends on whether you prefer a very easy circular route or a moderately difficult 11-kilometre hike.
