Pont-De-Larn reveals itself through trails with clearly distinct landscapes: old stone-paved paths and Gneiss farmsteads, streams and beech forest, as well as peat meadows and statue-menhir stones. If you are planning a stay, you can start by choosing your preferred route length and the themes that interest you along the way. The Church of Saint-Baudille provides a historical landmark, while a climbing crag adds another activity to the options.

Hiking by route length and landscape

The Hauts de Saint-Baudille route is a 7.5-kilometre circular route; the Hauts de la MĂ´le route is a 13-kilometre circular route. The Hauts de Roussoulp route is 12 kilometres long and starts in Saint-Baudille. The distances offer an initial basis for comparison as you choose; you can also plan the two circular routes as loops. Check the route details locally before setting out.

Hauts de Saint-Baudille

On the Hauts de Saint-Baudille route, old stone-paved paths lead to large Gneiss farmsteads. The south-facing slopes overlook the Thoré Valley and offer views of the Montagne Noire. This brings together two distinct features on the same route: the built landscape of the farmsteads and the views across the valley and mountains. If you want to focus on both architecture and distant views during a hike, this combination is what distinguishes the route from those featuring beech forest or wet meadows.

Hauts de Roussoulp

The Hauts de Roussoulp route starts in Saint-Baudille and crosses the two main streams in the commune of Pont-de-Larn: the Doul and the Issalès. It also passes through a beech forest regarded as an important site in the history of Protestantism. This combination of flowing water, woodland and Protestant history sets it apart from the Gneiss and viewpoint route of Hauts de Saint-Baudille.

Hauts de la MĂ´le

The Hauts de la MĂ´le route passes the Pas des BĂŞtes waterway and crosses peat meadows known as sagnes. At the end are two imposing statue-menhir stones, considered evidence of a civilization from the end of the Neolithic period, around 5,000 years ago. The route thus combines a distinctive landscape with an archaeological destination.

Church history and climbing

The Church of Saint-Baudille is part of the area's history. It dates from the 12th century, was repaired around 1850 and renovated in 1990. This sequence links its medieval origins with later work on the building. Together with the statue-menhir stones on the Hauts de la MĂ´le route, the church offers another perspective on Pont-De-Larn's history: a religious building and archaeological evidence stand side by side as distinct historical landmarks.

If you would rather climb than hike, the Rocher d'escalade de Pont de Larn has 15 routes. The grades range from 4a to 6b, and the routes are 10 to 20 metres high. Grade and height provide two concrete points of reference for planning. Since specifications can change if the climbing equipment is modified, check the details before climbing.
