Montredon-Labessonnié offers a range of highlights for a stay: hiking trails, mountain bike loops, historic churches and chapels, science activities and a municipal swimming pool. If you are looking for accommodation, you can start by considering what you want to shape your stay: time outdoors, local history or specific activities.

Hiking Trails and Landscape

Montredon-Labessonnié has more than 120 kilometres of hiking trails as well as marked mountain bike loops. The Tour du village hiking trail starts at Place du Foirail and passes through the town centre and the surrounding countryside. The bell tower of Saint-Jean serves as a landmark along the way. Another route is the Sentier de l’Houlette, an 18-kilometre loop. Its features include the remains of forgotten hamlets in the valleys, sweeping panoramic views as far as the Pyrenees, the ruins of an old mill and a building that has been devoted to astronomy for centuries. If you want to choose according to route length, the Sentier de l’Houlette offers an 18-kilometre loop; for the Tour du village, the starting point, town centre and bell tower provide orientation.

The «Montagne» offers panoramic views, oak and chestnut forests, and green pastures. These landscape features add a distinct focus to the hiking options described above: views, woodland and open pastureland.

Churches and Local History

Notre-Dame-de-Ruffis is a small 14th-century Romanesque chapel. It has been restored and is maintained by volunteers from the Association pour la Sauvegarde et la Promotion de l’Ensemble de Ruffis (ASPER). Here, you can learn not only about a medieval building but also about the work of a local association dedicated to its preservation.

The present-day Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Montredon was built around 1841. Before it, a 13th-century Gothic church stood on the site. It was destroyed and rebuilt in 1666, then fell into disrepair around 1800. The sequence from the medieval predecessor through its reconstruction to the present church gives the town’s history a clear timeline.

The Monument de Montredon-Labessonié was inaugurated in 1922. It commemorates 159 people killed in the First World War, 9 in the Second World War, 1 in the Indochina War and 4 in the Algerian War or the conflict in North Africa. The different figures refer to the respective conflicts and form part of the commemoration of their war victims.

Science and Swimming

Planète Tarn offers astronomy and science activities. These include workshops on hydropneumatic rockets, volcanoes and earthquakes, as well as planet observation. If you want to plan a specific activity, check the dates and booking conditions in advance; these may vary.

Piscine de Bezan is a supervised municipal swimming pool with three pools: a paddling pool, a medium-sized pool and a large pool. This means it offers pools of different sizes. If you are planning a visit, check the current opening times in advance.

The trails differ in their routes and stated lengths, while the chapel, church and monument each reveal different aspects of local history. For your stay, you can choose which highlights to prioritise depending on whether you would rather spend time outdoors, explore the history of the buildings or plan a science or swimming activity.
