Mirandol-Bourgnounac can be explored from different perspectives: the landscape along the Viaur sits alongside trails across the plateau and valley, while medieval traces and buildings reveal the history of the area. There are also seasonal offerings on a farm and summer exhibitions. When planning, you can focus on landscapes, hiking trails, heritage or seasonal discoveries.

Landscapes along the Viaur

The ZNIEFF de type 1 Rivière du Viaur encompasses the river, alluvial forests and riverside woodland, meadows, rocky areas and dry heathland; part of the area is included in Natura 2000. The ZNIEFF also includes the municipality of Mirandol-Bourgnounac. A diverse range of flora and fauna finds a habitat here, including aquatic animals and breeding birds in the riverside forests and rocky areas.

Trails with different routes

The La Rivière hiking trail follows the banks of the Viaur and the Lézert before crossing the plateau and reaching a viewpoint over Mirandol. L’Echappée Sauvage starts in Mirandol and leads from the plateau trails to the steep paths of the Viaur Valley. The two routes have different focuses: one follows the riverbanks and reaches the viewpoint, while the other leads from the plateau to steep valley paths. Check local trail conditions before setting out.

The Sentier de Cazouls is a shaded circular trail. It follows wide paths alongside the Ruisseau du Lauzentou to the banks of the Viaur; along the way, remnants of former life in the valley can be seen. Check trail conditions before your walk.

The Pont de Cirou circular trail starts at Mirandol-Bourgnounac town hall, is of moderate difficulty, is 6.1 kilometres long and takes about an hour and 30 minutes. These details provide a practical guide for planning your time; they may change. Check conditions locally. The Moulin de Pignac is near the circular trail and was restored between 2006 and 2009.

History and architecture

In the Middle Ages, Mirandol was a fortified village on the hillside above the Viaur. Today, only a ruined chapel remains at the historic site. The Pont de Cirou dates from the 14th century and is considered the oldest structure crossing the Viaur.

The Le Vieux Moulin circular trail presents the watermills on the Viaur as reminders of rural life in the valleys. In the past, they were used, among other things, to grind grain, produce oil, full cloth and saw wood. These different uses show how work was concentrated around the mills.

The altarpiece of the high altar in the Église Notre-Dame de Bourgnounac is listed as a protected object; its protection was recorded on 9 April 1964. The altarpiece depicts the Assumption of Mary, with statues of Saint Peter and Saint Paul in false niches on either side.

Seasonal discoveries

A variety of exhibitions are presented in summer at the Grange and Stable in Mirandol-Bourgnounac. Programme dates may vary. At La ferme du Pesquier du meunier, you can pick strawberries directly on the farm during the season; availability depends on the harvest.

For 2026, the sales offering at the Ferme du Pesquier du meunier includes untreated vegetables, farm eggs and red fruit, available in baskets as well as through market sales. Products and collection arrangements may vary. These offerings are available at different times: strawberry picking depends on the season and harvest, while the exhibitions take place in summer and have varying programme dates.
