Explore Les Cabannes via a themed circular trail, traces of the village’s history and a riverside spot. The Sentier thématique focuses on the work of the city’s builders, who worked in the Garissou quarries. Notable structures include the Church of Saint-Antoine, a medieval fortified tower and Pont des Anes. By the Cérou, there is also a picnic area with a view of Cordes-sur-Ciel. These different highlights offer a range of ways to shape your stay.

The Sentier thématique and the Garissou quarries

The Sentier thématique is a circular trail about 1.5 kilometres long. Its theme is the work of the city’s builders, who worked in the Garissou quarries. It draws attention to the people behind the city’s history and their work in the quarries. The circular route and stated distance give the walk a clearly defined scope, without specifying a particular walking time.

The trail is part of the departmental PDIPR network of walking and hiking routes and is marked with signposts. A fun booklet for families is available at the town hall, at the La Toscane Occitane tourist office, or as a free download. If you would like to use the booklet, check before your trip whether it is available at your preferred collection point.

Structures with different forms and heritage listing dates

The two-arched Pont des Anes is associated with the La Bogne mill. It crosses the Cérou and is partly located in Les Cabannes. The entire structure, including plot B 676 in Les Cabannes, was listed as a Monument historique by decree on 19 July 2006. The bridge’s form, its connection to the river and its listed status each give it a distinct historical significance.

Near the church in Les Cabannes stands a medieval fortified tower with a square ground plan. In the village centre, the Church of Saint-Antoine is part of the village’s rich architectural heritage. Those interested in architectural forms can compare these different features: the tower’s square ground plan, the two arches of Pont des Anes and the church’s place in the area’s architectural heritage.

There is also a wrought-iron cross in the church square. It was listed as a Monument historique by decree on 11 August 1975. Together with the bridge’s listing in 2006, this provides a concrete comparison of the listing dates of two structures; the years refer to when they were listed, not when they were built.

A different riverside experience by the Cérou

Along the Cérou, a picnic area offers a view of the town of Cordes-sur-Ciel. Here, the focus is on the river, picnicking and the view, while the themed trail explores the work of the city’s builders and the structures tell stories of history and architecture. This gives you different ways to shape your visit: you can focus on the circular trail and local history, or combine your stay with a riverside break and a view of Cordes-sur-Ciel.

To choose between these themes, consider a simple question: are you particularly interested in the city’s history and its structures, or would you also like to plan a picnic spot with a view? Les Cabannes offers a range of specific highlights, from the circular trail of about 1.5 kilometres to Pont des Anes on the Cérou. This makes it easy to decide what you would like to discover during your trip.
