Castelnau-De-Brassac brings together sacred architecture, woodland nature and educational themes: the Rotonde d’Oulias reflects the history of architecture and pilgrimage, while Montagnol is associated with the Forêt de Montagnol and its interpretation through information panels. La Pierre Plantée de Larénas, along with educational activities about bees and grain, also helps shape the area’s character.

Rotonde d’Oulias and the Way of the Cross

The Rotonde d’Oulias has an unusual floor plan: two rotundas are joined by a rectangular choir. The choir is the connecting section between the two circular spaces; the architecture can thus be understood as an interplay of two rounded areas and a rectangular element. The chapel was established from 1834 onwards and became the site of a Marian pilgrimage. The Rotonde as a whole is protected by listing as a French historic monument; the decree on which this is based is dated 25 May 2001.

The landscape Way of the Cross at the Rotonde runs through the woods along a path leading to the chapel. Each of its stations consists of a monumental wooden cross. The Way of the Cross as a whole is also protected as a French historic monument; this is based on a decree dated 26 July 2001. The Rotonde and the Way of the Cross therefore also differ in form: the architecture of two rotundas and a choir is followed by a path with crosses at its stations.

La Pierre Plantée de Larénas

La Pierre Plantée de Larénas is also protected by listing as a historic monument. A monument was erected there in 1922.

Woodland nature and interpretation on Montagnol

The Forêt de Montagnol in Castelnau-De-Brassac comprises deciduous woodland with rich flora and fauna. The Maison de la forêt on Montagnol presents the history of this area through numerous information panels. The Sentier de découverte de la forêt de Montagnol has educational panels at the stations along the path. This lets you distinguish between two forms of interpretation: the area’s history at the Maison and the educational panels along the discovery trail.

Bees, beekeeping and grain

The official brochure of group activities for 2026 lists two educational activities at Ferme du Moulin Haut, each on a different topic. One focuses on the Maison de l’abeille and introduces the profession of beekeeping as well as the inhabitants of the beehive. The other covers the processing of wheat and various grains into flour, including buckwheat and wheat flour. The distinction between the topics is clear: one activity is about the beehive and beekeeping, while the other follows the journey from grain to flour. Participation details may depend on reservations; check in advance.
