Moissac offers visitors a range of points of interest: canal engineering, the pilgrimage route, Art Deco and monastic sculpture. Market days and an annual event also provide practical guidance for planning your trip.

The Pont Canal du Cacor

The Pont Canal du Cacor was built in 1845 and is 356 metres long. It is France’s third-longest canal bridge, after the bridges at Briare in Loiret and Agen in Lot-et-Garonne. This ranking places the structure in the French context and names two specific points of comparison. The Pont Canal is easily accessible from the Port de Plaisance de Moissac. If you are interested in canal bridges, you will find both a precise length and a clear comparison with two other structures here.

Moissac on the Via Podiensis

Moissac lies on the Via Podiensis, the GR 65 pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela. The listed stages are Lauzerte–Durfort-Lacapelette–Moissac, at 24 kilometres, and Moissac–Boudou–Auvillar, at 21 kilometres. The distances can be compared directly: the first is three kilometres longer than the second. Together with the place names, the figures show which sections are meant. This lets you distinguish two stages with specific distances for your planning, rather than reading the kilometres as a single route through Moissac.

Art Deco and carved capitals

The Kiosque de l’Uvarium was built in 1933 by the architect Thilliet and decorated by the painter Domergue Lagarde. Its rounded shape, metal framework and frescoes preserve the spirit of Art Deco. The form, construction and painted decoration describe different aspects of the same building. The Kiosque is open to the public year-round; check current access arrangements before your trip.

The Cloître de Moissac offers a different kind of artistic detail: it has 76 carved capitals, all of them different. Their motifs include scenes from the Bible and the lives of saints. The variety is evident both in the number of capitals and in their different depictions. If you are interested in religious imagery, alongside the Art Deco of the Kiosque you will find another artistic facet of Moissac, with a distinct character.

Weekend market and August event

Through 31 December 2028, the Marché de Moissac takes place on Saturday and Sunday mornings at Place des Récollets and in the market hall. This gives you two recurring mornings to visit the market. The Vierge du Calvaire follows a different calendar: the statue was erected in 1858, and a memorial service and procession take place every year on 15 August. A regular weekend event and a date set annually thus sit side by side.

Discover Moissac through a puzzle

Baludik offers an interactive puzzle activity in Moissac, letting you discover the town on your own, with friends or with family. Solving puzzles adds a different kind of activity to the architectural and religious themes. You can choose an activity that is not limited to looking at buildings, but instead offers an interactive way to explore Moissac as a destination.
