Laparrouquial offers two distinct reasons to visit: a green landscape at an altitude of 453 metres and a cultural heritage shaped by several specific details. The 60 km “Les Puechs du Ségala” cycling route is associated with the town, while Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption reflects a long history of construction and furnishings. The waterways can also be understood through their source and tributary relationships.

Cycling Route and Waterways

The “Les Puechs du Ségala” route is 60 km long and associated with Laparrouquial. This distance makes it a distinct focus of trip planning, not just a short, incidental extra. Plan your day around your own pace and leave room for breaks. Route conditions may change; check them before setting out. This makes it possible to plan the cycling route as a clear part of your stay without assuming a fixed riding time.

The Ruisseau d’Aymer rises in Laparrouquial and is a second-category waterway. The Ruisseau de La Mafrésié is a tributary of the Aymer, while the Ruisseau du Lizert is a tributary of the Cérou. The Aymer can therefore be understood both as a waterway whose source is in Laparrouquial and as the receiving stream for La Mafrésié. The Lizert, by contrast, is connected to the Cérou.

Church and Heritage

Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption in Laparrouquial is a Gothic church built in 1527. Its baptistery contains a stone basin dating from the 14th century, bearing a lily coat of arms. The basin therefore predates the church’s construction; the two dates represent different historical layers. The bell bears the year 1782. During Easter, two ratchets took the place of the bells, which had been taken to Rome. The architecture, baptismal basin and use of ratchets represent different aspects of the church’s history.

The parish hall in Laparrouquial, formerly used for catechism classes, contains wall frescoes created by Nicolaï Greschny in 1947. Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption also houses a processional banner of Saint Bernard. It combines cream-coloured satin with gold embroidery and crimson velvet. These details add an artist, a religious dedication and materials to the building’s history.

A Summer Event

The “Les Pieds dans le Pré” festival was founded by the Laparrouquial Activities Committee and is considered a regular part of summer. If you would like to include it in your trip plans, check the dates for your preferred travel period. Its summer setting adds another possible focus alongside cycling and church history, and raises a seasonal planning question: would you like your trip to coincide with the festival?
