Féneyrols combines cultural heritage with walking and cycling trails, as well as seasonal activities along the Aveyron. When planning your visit, you can choose from several highlights: the history of its monuments, a circular route with a stated walking time, or nature outings covering a range of themes.

Cultural heritage in Féneyrols

The Château de Féneyrols was built to protect a ford. The façades and roofs of the western buildings were listed as historic monuments by decree on 16 February 1951. The Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste originated as the priory of Saint-Jean-des-Champs. It depended on the Benedictine Abbey of Saint-Antonin and was built around the 9th century on the ruins of Gallo-Roman baths.

The nave of the Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste is flanked by four chapels and has an azure-blue ceiling. Visitors can see it during the annual Journées du patrimoine; check the local programme for dates. The Église Saint-Clair de Quergoalle is also said to have been built in the 9th century. From the foot of its bell tower, you can enjoy a lovely view. The Église Saint-Julien de Carrendier is believed to date from the 9th century; its nave was extended.

The Chapelle Saint-Pierre aux Liens de Féneyrols was built in 1768 in the centre of the village by the de Rous family. Another landmark is the metal Pont suspendu de Féneyrols, a suspension bridge of historic and architectural interest to visitors. It connects the D115 to the village and lies on the tourist road through the Gorges de l’Aveyron.

Exploring on foot or by bike

Marked in yellow, the PR1 Féneyrols: Boucle de Féneyrols is a very easy 6.7-kilometre circular walking route, taking about two hours. The trail follows the Aveyron towards the former baths. Check the markings and route before setting out.

In Féneyrols, the buildings of the former baths remain on the right bank of the Aveyron. A surviving park covers about two hectares. The PR1 also passes a bivouac area opposite the former baths. It has picnic tables, toilets and a shower; check their condition on site before relying on these facilities.

For cyclists, the 85-kilometre Véloroute Vallée et Gorges de l’Aveyron links Montauban with Laguépie and passes through Féneyrols between Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val and Lexos. The Circuit Cyclo n°10: Alimenterre cycling loop includes an out-and-back route to Féneyrols, passing the château, the church and the metal bridge over the Aveyron. This makes it possible to compare the stated walking time for the PR1 with a cycling option whose total distance is known; no cycling time is specified here.

Nature and seasonal activities

Near Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val in the Tarn-et-Garonne department, L’Hoplie Bleue offers guided nature outings on foot. Topics range from geology, fauna and flora to photography and astronomy. The outings last about two to six hours. Check the latest tour information before planning.

Water sports on the Aveyron are among Féneyrols’ summer visitor activities; traditional fishing is another local activity. A very small part of the municipality also lies within a classified Natura 2000 site.
