Molère offers three hiking trails, including one that leads to Capvern. The routes have different focuses: a loop hike starting in Molère, an archaeological focus, and an easy hike between Capvern and Molère. This gives you distance, time estimates, and the landscape setting to consider when choosing. You can plan based on the type of trail, not just a single figure.

Hiking trails with different focuses

Chemin de la Cantère

The Chemin de la Cantère is a 9-kilometer loop hike starting in Molère; the stated duration is about 2 hours and 35 minutes. Together, the distance and time give you a concrete framework for planning your day. The trail markings change along the way: sections 1–3 and 4–1 are marked in yellow, while section 3–4 follows the GR 78’s white-and-red markings. Following the sections individually also helps you keep track of the change in markings. As a loop hike, the Cantère has a different route format from La boucle de las Goulettes, which runs between Capvern and Molère.

Chemin des Tumulus

The archaeological theme is central to the Chemin des Tumulus. The route passes through an Iron Age necropolis with numerous tumuli, or burial mounds. It is rated easy; the estimated duration is 3 hours and 30 minutes. The starting point and destination are both at the Jardin de Torralba in Benqué-Molère. From there, the trail crosses a footbridge over the Garravet and then climbs up to Molère.

La boucle de las Goulettes

La boucle de las Goulettes is an easy hike between Capvern and Molère, with the Massif des Baronnies and the Pyrenees as its backdrop. Near Molère, the route leads to Capvern, where hikers can enjoy a panorama of the Baronnies and the Pyrenean chain. Molère lies on a ridge opposite the Pyrenean chain; the panorama of the Baronnies and Pyrenees is located at Capvern. This helps distinguish the village’s location from the route’s panoramic viewpoint.

A place name with ties to Spain

The Jardin de Torralba de Aragon in Molère is named after Torralba de Aragón, the Spanish town with which Molère is officially twinned. A twinning is an official partnership between towns. The garden’s name and the partnership therefore refer to the same Spanish place name, adding a cultural connection to the hiking trails.

Weigh up route format and time required

You can compare the Cantère and the Tumulus in terms of time required: the Cantère is listed at about 2 hours and 35 minutes, while the estimated duration for the Tumulus is 3 hours and 30 minutes. The Cantère combines this time frame with a 9-kilometer loop hike. For the Tumulus, its easy rating and the route through the necropolis are factors to consider. So your choice need not be based on time alone: a loop trail or an archaeological focus may also be decisive for you.
