Vallègue brings together nature and culture at specific places: the lake, a circular walk and the village’s history offer several possible focal points for your stay. In addition to walks and fishing, there are activities by the lake and historical points of interest in the village; E-Trott Lauragais also offers excursions from Vallègue on set routes. When planning, you can therefore choose between activities around the lake and an excursion format that is guided or partially accompanied.
Lake, Circular Walk and Countryside
The 8-hectare Vallègue lake is used for walks and fishing. The Cami del tor del lac is a 2 km circular route around the lake. Information panels along the route cover the village’s history, as well as its fauna and flora. The walk thus connects the lake with nature and local history; its set length and the panel content provide two clear points of reference for planning your day.
Vallègue lies in a typical landscape of cultivated hills, wheat and sunflower fields, and villages built of brick and stone. This agricultural setting provides a different perspective from the circular walk itself: rather than describing the route around the lake, it characterizes the countryside in which Vallègue is set.
Activities and Facilities
The Cami del tor del lac also includes a fitness trail with ten stations. There are tables, benches, a barbecue, barriers and a jetty along the route; their condition may vary. A 2022 intercommunal visitor publication mentions sports equipment, picnic tables and barbecue areas around the lake. Check the condition of the facilities before your visit if they are important to your plans.
E-Trott Lauragais generally offers guided or partially accompanied excursions from Vallègue on set routes, and also rents out four non-electric bicycles. These are different formats: the excursion route is set and is usually guided or partially accompanied, while the bicycles are available for hire. Check reservation and operating details before setting off; bicycle availability may change.
Church and Local History
The Saint Etienne Church was built on the former site of the old castle chapel. Its construction was approved in 1897 and completed in 1902. This provides a specific architectural point of reference for understanding local history: the site is linked to the former castle chapel, while the church itself is associated with the construction dates of 1897 and 1902.
The Château de Vallègue is listed in Vallègue as a historic site and monument. Before the French Revolution, four major fairs were held in the village. These predate the church’s later construction dates: construction was approved in 1897 and the church was completed in 1902.
