The Aqueduc de Saint-Agne can be seen from Ramonville’s technical port. The structure connects the Canal du Midi with a specific water-management purpose: in 1766, the engineer François Garipuy used a siphon system so that the Palays stream could pass beneath the canal. The aqueduct is an 18th-century siphon aqueduct. Its original design and careful construction were highlighted; 19th-century engineers cited it as a prototype of siphon aqueducts. The structure thus offers a way to understand both its function and its place in engineering history.
Historic buildings and their details
The Pigeonnier de la Comtesse and the Pont de Mange-Pommes also offer different points of historical interest. The Monuments historiques date the Pigeonnier to the 16th or 17th century. Its features include a dovecote and cornices. At the Pont de Mange-Pommes, also known as the Pont du Madron, construction and renovation history take center stage: the bridge over the Canal Royal was built of stone and brick in the 17th century and altered in the 19th century. Exploring the Canal du Midi
The Canal du Midi in Ramonville-Saint-Agne has been on the World Heritage List since 1996. Trips are possible by boat, bicycle and on foot. This gives you different ways to include the canal in your stay, without having to follow a set itinerary. At Port-Sud, A L’ABORDAGE MOUSSAILLON offers license-free electric boats for trips on the Canal du Midi. Rentals are by the hour, for periods of one to four hours. The service is seasonal; check in advance whether rentals are available when you plan to visit.
Opening times and culture
The Parc et Château de Soule can be reached via Avenue de Suisse, Allée Nicolas-de-Condorcet and Avenue de l’Aéropostale, and is open to the public daily. The stated opening hours are 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. from November 15 to April 14; from April 15 to November 14, the park is open from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. As opening hours may change, check the latest times before your visit.
The Le Kiwi cultural center has a large event hall with a capacity of 380 spectators. Le Kiwi presents performances as part of its cultural seasons. This adds a distinct cultural focus to the historic buildings and canal: when planning, you can take into account both outdoor visits and cultural events without having to fit them into a specific daily schedule.
Green spaces and visitor amenities
The Ferme de Cinquante covers more than 25 hectares of meadows and landscaped green spaces. Its animal park with farm animals is open to individual visitors. The Ferme also offers a self-guided trail with farm animals, as well as a picnic area and a play area. The grounds and amenities range from a self-guided walk to places to take a break on site.
The Jardin des Senteurs et des Couleurs is a freely accessible natural space in Ramonville-Saint-Agne. Volunteers from the Rando-Plaisirs association maintain and enliven the garden. It contains 80 species of aromatic or brightly colored plants. Thirty of them are marked with special signs for visitors with visual impairments and described in a booklet. Games to discover aromatic plants and trees are also available for children and families; the booklet for these activities is in a mailbox near the garden. The plant signs, booklet and games offer different thematic ways to explore the garden, but they are not the same activity.
Getting around
