The Château de Mauvaisin offers two distinct reasons to visit: its architecture and the weekly market are part of the same place, while rural live performances take place in a barn opposite. Le Jardin du Parc complements the offering with fruit, vegetables, flowers and herbs. When planning your trip, it is worth treating these destinations as having different schedules: market hours, performance dates and the park’s opening hours are governed separately.
Château de Mauvaisin: Architecture and Protection
The Château de Mauvaisin is partially protected as a Monument historique. It was listed by decree dated 5 May 1993. The protection covers the façades and roofs of the main building and the two wings, as well as the entrance portal, the surrounding wall and the dovecote. The protected property therefore includes several parts of the complex, not just the main building.
The château consists of a rectangular, two-storey main building and two service wings set at right angles to it. This design clearly distinguishes the central building from the adjoining side structures. The courtyard also has a specific feature: it is enclosed by a portal with brick pillars and an 18th-century lattice gate. The complex can therefore be viewed in terms of its main building, wings and courtyard entrance, rather than being reduced to a single façade.
Rural Performances and Culture
Un Dimanche À La Campagne is a cultural association dedicated to developing and promoting live performances in rural areas. Its programme takes place in the barn opposite the Château de Mauvaisin. It includes Balòchâteau, traditional and folk dance events. As programme dates may change, check before travelling whether a performance fits your stay.
The market takes place at the château, while performances are held in the barn opposite: both events are connected with the château, but require different planning. The Église de l’Immaculée-Conception in Mauvaisin also houses a chalice. It adds a specific sacred object to the area’s architectural and performing-arts heritage.
Producers’ Market and Le Jardin du Parc
The Marché de producteurs à Mauvaisin takes place every Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Château de Mauvaisin, where local producers welcome visitors. Market hours may change, so it is advisable to check before travelling. In the town centre, Le Jardin du Parc offers fruit, vegetables, flowers and herbs. Its products carry the Agriculture Bio and Nature et Progrès labels. If these labels matter to you for your visit or purchase, check their current status. You should also confirm the product range and visitor arrangements before travelling.
Le Jardin du Parc is open during festivals, events and concerts. This is a different arrangement from the weekly market: a relevant event is required for the park, while the market is tied to a particular day of the week and time slot. If you plan to visit both, check the market date as well as which event might allow you to visit the park.
Planning Your Journey and Stay
The Daujas – Gaillac-Toulza – Auterive routes serve the MAUVAISIN – Danès stop. Le Jardin du Parc is less than a 20-minute walk from there. Transport information may change, so check the connection before travelling. The walking time gives you a specific guide to the route between the stop and Le Jardin, but does not replace checking the relevant connection.
When choosing your travel dates, you can start with the occasion: the weekly market takes place on Thursday evenings, while the association’s programme has changing performance dates and the park is open in connection with festivals, events and concerts. This lets you coordinate the local offerings with your travel plans without assuming that the market, cultural programme and park opening are all available at the same time.
