Falga can be explored through two themes: hiking trails with different focuses and buildings whose history ranges from the church to the hall built in 2013. When planning your stay, you can focus on a waymarked PR trail, a historic circular trail or the history of the architecture.
Hiking Trails with Different Foci
The waymarked “Del blat al Molin” PR hiking trail is 20 kilometres long, six of which pass through Falga. The total length and the section in the commune answer different planning questions: the first figure describes the entire trail, the second the section in Falga. Check the current waymarking on site before setting off. The route also offers a chance to discover the surrounding communes of Cambiac, Mourens, Auriac-sur-Vendinelle and Le Vaux.
The historic circular trail through Falga leads to Crouzet, a rocky outcrop where you can discover a former stone quarry that was important for building and extending farmsteads. When choosing your route, the historic circular trail offers a focus on local history, while the PR trail’s total length and the surrounding communes are useful points of reference.
The Church and Local History
The church in Falga is dedicated to Saint Martin. Its sanctuary features a painted, coffered ceiling with rich ornamentation. The coffering divides the ceiling into panels, with the painted decoration complementing this architectural structure.
The relocation of the church was completed in 1779. Materials from the demolished former church were also reused in the design of the new church, preserving a tangible link with its predecessor. Another historical landmark is the Château du Falga, which Philippe de Caffarelli purchased in 1681.
At the border with St Félix Lauragais, the Route des Crêtes gives way to a communal road leading to the church. The birthplace of the Caffarrelli brothers can be seen from there, linking the route with a specific historical landmark.
Craftsmanship and Local Produce
Falga’s hall adds a more recent building project to the picture: it was built in 2013 from oak, using the craftsmanship of the Compagnons du devoir. A company specialising in the restoration of historic heritage also carried out the masonry work. Unlike the church’s relocation, the focus here is on the year it was built, the timber and the craft skills involved.
La Ferme de Montplaisir Bio in Falga keeps poultry outdoors for extended periods and holds the Agriculture biologique (AB) label. The farm produces its own poultry feed from organic grain. Check the farm’s current details before travelling.
