A stay in Bouloc can be planned from several different angles: two yellow-marked hiking trails with stated distances and approximate durations, the Notre-Dame church, the historic washhouse, and a horse-riding option that includes wine tours. For planning, it is helpful to start with the time needed for a hike; cultural history and horse riding offer other points of focus. Specific details can help you decide whether to plan a shorter or longer route, or to prioritise other local interests.

Hiking trails: compare distance and time required

The Promenade Boulocaine circular trail is 6.5 km long, takes about two hours and is marked in yellow. The Sentier aux papillons is 14 km long; an approximate duration of three hours and 30 minutes is given. This trail is also marked in yellow and rated as moderate. You can compare distance and time side by side: the Promenade is the shorter walk, with the lower estimated time, while the Sentier is longer and takes more time.

The Sentier aux papillons offers panoramic views of the village of Gargas and the Girou Valley. There is a second starting point at the Centre de loisirs, opposite Bouloc town hall. Check trail conditions before setting out.

Notre-Dame: architectural form and altarpiece

The first known mention of Notre-Dame church dates from 1514. Its nave comprises three bays and leads to a five-sided polygonal choir. A bay is a section of the nave’s architectural layout. The large altarpiece is a 17th-century ensemble of carved wood and has been listed as a historic monument since 1933. The dates refer to different things: 1514 is the first known mention of the church, while the 17th century is when the altarpiece was created. An altarpiece is a structure placed behind an altar.

Washhouse and waterways

Bouloc’s washhouse originated at a spring and became a fountain that was formerly known as “Lo Fount Grande”. It served as a watering place for livestock and a place to wash clothes. This brings a different aspect of local history into focus alongside the church: water and its former everyday uses, rather than architecture and furnishings. Water from the washhouse flows into the Cardillou stream, which joins the Girou.

Planning horse riding and accommodation

Cap Cheval in Bouloc is a family-friendly riding stable in a green setting. Its offerings include horse-riding wine tours, with day trips through forests and vineyards. The time format differs from that of the hikes: the riding tours are designed as day trips, while the trails have approximate durations given in hours.

You can plan your overnight stay around your interests and the time you have available.
