Beauzelle brings together a large green space on the banks of the Garonne, riverside paths, an exhibition and congress centre, and a distinctive episode in Henri Matisse’s life. When choosing where to stay, it is worth deciding what matters most to you: time in the great outdoors, an event at MEETT, or the town’s cultural history?

Green space and paths along the Garonne

The Quinze Sols leisure area is a 33-hectare green space on the banks of the Garonne in Beauzelle. Created around forty years ago, it is a place for relaxation and leisure. Its size makes it a destination in its own right for a stay that includes time outdoors.

The heavily shaded Grand Ramier de Beauzelle attracts walkers and anglers at the right time of year and is considered a family-friendly walking route. From there, nature and cycling paths follow the Garonne to Toulouse and the Pont des Catalans. This makes it possible to choose between a walk in Grand Ramier and a longer route ending in Toulouse. If you plan to use the paths, check current conditions before your visit.

MEETT and travel planning

Beauzelle shares the metropolitan area’s exhibition and congress centre, MEETT, with the municipality of Aussonne. It opened in September 2020. A fully modular 40,000-square-metre hall can be divided into seven separate halls. It can host a range of events, including trade fairs, exhibitions and funfairs. If you are travelling to Beauzelle for an event, you can use its specific date as the starting point for planning your stay.

Beauzelle is served by several bus and tram lines. These include Tisséo lines 30, 70 and 71, TAD 120 and liO line 388. For specific journey planning, it is advisable to check current services, as routes and service patterns may change.

Matisse and Beauzelle’s history

Henri Matisse lived in Beauzelle from August 1898 to February 1899. His first son, Jean, was born during this period, on 10 January 1899 in Beauzelle. These two dates give the town a clearly defined connection to the painter’s biography and make it a cultural history destination alongside a visit to the Garonne landscape or MEETT.

The Église Saint-Julien is also part of Beauzelle’s history. Based on the date of the church bell’s baptism, the church is thought to have been built in the 16th century. A papal bull issued by Pope Innocent XI on 17 July 1687 permitted the founding in Beauzelle of a brotherhood under the name of Saint Julian, as well as the annual celebration of his feast day on 28 August. This describes a historical permission; it does not establish whether a celebration takes place today.

Plan your stay around the occasion

When looking for a hotel in Beauzelle, you can start by deciding which occasion matters most to you. For a trip to attend an event, MEETT is the obvious reference point; if you would rather spend time outdoors, Quinze Sols, Grand Ramier and the paths along the Garonne offer other options. Matisse and Saint-Julien add historical themes to the mix. This lets you choose Beauzelle based on your interests without having to follow a set itinerary drawn from its different attractions.
