The market hall in Solomiac once also served as the town hall; the church has stood on the same site since the bastide was founded. There are also trails along the Gimone and to the dovecotes. Solomiac brings together local history, architectural styles and nature, with different ways to explore the town.

Market Hall and Church: Two Connections to the Past

The market hall was listed as a historic monument by decree on 22 March 1973. Even before the present building, it also served as the town hall. The 14th century is a possible date for its construction. Its former use as the town hall concerns the role of the hall, while the possible dating concerns its potential age: two different perspectives on the same building.

Solomiac’s current church has stood on the same site since the bastide was founded in 1323. On its north side, the octagonal bell tower and spire rise above the choir, not the entrance. The church’s connection to the past differs from that of the market hall: for the church, the focus is on its site, unchanged since 1323, whereas the 14th century is a possible date of construction for the hall. The tower’s location is also precise: above the choir, on the north side.

Two Trails, Different Highlights

The Sentier Découverte de la Gimone runs along the Gimone in the commune of Solomiac. It is a free-access 3 km circular route; there is also a shorter 1.7 km loop. This lets you choose your preferred distance. As an educational trail, it covers water, soil, fauna and flora, as well as biotopes, ecosystems and sustainable development. It is intended for a broad audience and, with its educational booklet, is particularly suitable for children from primary school to collège age and for families.

The Sentier des pigeonniers has a different focus. Near Solomiac, this trail takes you to the dovecotes of Narrosse, En-Cazeneuve, En-Naliotte, En-Naubrie, Géry and Grandeborde. On the return, the route follows the banks of the Gimone to the bastide and ends at the washhouse. Those interested in architectural history will find specific points of interest here, while the Sentier Découverte de la Gimone focuses on topics such as water, soil and ecosystems.

Leisure Centre and Market Entertainment

Solomiac’s leisure centre is closed for the 2026 season. The site has several outdoor pools for play and swimming. It also features the Toboggan Jet-Gliss, a slide over 10 metres high, as well as 13 other slides for all age groups. If you are planning a later trip, check the centre’s status again.

Each market begins with a performance, such as one by a music group or singer, a Zumba or country dance demonstration, a magician or a banda. This is followed by a disco ball for dancing. The entertainment programme may vary.
