At the foot of Pellefigue lies Lac de la Marcaoue, a reservoir used for irrigation. The Coteaux et Vallée de l’Esquinson hiking trail also passes through the commune. Église Saint-Antoine adds a cultural and historical perspective to these themes: its portal, tower and a painting represent different periods. When choosing a destination, you can therefore distinguish between three interests: water and fishing, a longer hike, or architecture and religious art.

Lake and fishing

Pellefigue is included in the type 2 ZNIEFF “Cours de la Gimone et de la Marcaoue.” This lets you consider nature on two scales: as a single body of water at the foot of the village, and through the named ZNIEFF, which includes Pellefigue. If you want to fish at Lac de la Marcaoue, take the fishing method into account. Fishing from the dam is prohibited; when fishing from a boat, each angler may use no more than two fishing rods. These regulations may change, so check them before fishing.

Hiking with a clear time estimate

The Coteaux et Vallée de l’Esquinson hiking trail passes through Pellefigue. It is 17 kilometres long, takes five hours and is of moderate difficulty. These three details answer different planning questions: the distance indicates the scope, the duration represents a block of several hours, and the difficulty rating provides a separate assessment. If you make the trail the focus of your trip, you can plan for the five hours as a specific timeframe for the hike. This makes it a several-hour activity, rather than a short stop.

Planning for hiking and fishing involves different considerations: a timeframe is given for the hike, while fishing depends on the method and the rules that apply to it. So when deciding which activity will shape your stay, you can consider the time required and fishing conditions separately.

Church and local history

Église Saint-Antoine in Pellefigue has several details that can be dated precisely. The entrance portal dates from the 14th century and survived the Huguenot destruction of 1570. Behind the altar is a painting signed by Lagarde and dated 1809. It depicts the Crucifixion with the Virgin Mary and Saint Anthony, and is listed in the inventory of historic monuments. The tower was given a spire in 1870. Taken together, these dates reveal different layers: a medieval portal, an early 19th-century painting and a later addition to the tower.

The village’s history also includes a connection with Simorre Abbey: Pellefigue was dependent on the abbey. This connection adds a distinct historical layer to the architectural and artistic history.
