Sainte-Eulalie-D'olt lies on the left bank of the Lot. This medieval village features distinctive buildings, art venues and several signposted routes. When planning your visit, it is worth considering the different options: a walking tour explores the village with explanatory information, while cycling and hiking routes provide specific distances and, in some cases, estimated durations. The churches, workshops and seasonally open gallery also each have their own appeal.

Architectural history of the château and churches

The Château de Curières de Castelnau is a fortified house dating from the late 15th century. On the façade facing the square, the Gothic tracery window stands out as a clearly identifiable architectural detail. The church of Sainte-Eulalie combines a Romanesque section dating from the late 11th century with nave bays from the early 16th century. These two dates show that the building’s history spans several centuries.

The Église de Malescombes adds another historical context to the picture: it was built around 1735 as part of the Curières family’s château. Inside are painted theatrical decorations, a stone holy-water font and an altarpiece. Architecture enthusiasts will find not only different building phases here, but also specific features of the interior that differ from the château’s façade.

Walking tour, art and local tradition

The walking tour of Sainte-Eulalie-D'olt is marked by 18 explanatory panels. The texts are available in French, English and Spanish. You can follow the village visit from one described stop to the next, with information available in more than one language.

The Procession de la Sainte-Épine is an annual tradition: on the second Sunday in July, a reliquary is carried through the village. The Galerie-Musée Marcel Boudou opens during the summer season and presents temporary themed exhibitions. As it is open seasonally, it is a good idea to check the specific opening days before visiting. This is separate from the municipal collection of the Musée Marcel Boudou, which includes 70 paintings by Marcel Boudou and Jeanne Saint Gaudens.

The workshops of Eulalie d'Art are housed in a 17th-century barn, where traditional crafts are preserved. The workshops can be visited freely and free of charge all year round. Depending on the work of the individual artists and craftspeople, courses and practical workshops are also available. A free, 45-minute glassblowing demonstration is also offered; check the dates and conditions in advance.

Landscapes and route options to suit your plans

The Source de Foncalde lies within the municipality, near the hamlet of Malescombes. Its temperature remains constant at 17 °C, and its water is iron-rich. In the past, the spring was used for its therapeutic properties. This historical use should be distinguished from its description today as a spring.

Two cycling routes offer notably different distances. The easy VTT Circuit de Cabanac is an 8.5 km circular route starting in Sainte-Eulalie-D'olt. The VTT Circuit du lac de Lous is also a circular route starting in Sainte-Eulalie-D'olt, but it is 32 km long; along the route around the lake, there are picnic tables and rest areas. The shorter route, rated easy, and the longer route clearly differ in length. Check the route details and the listed facilities again before setting out.

If you prefer to travel on foot, consider the Sentier de Pierrefiche. The hiking trail starts in Sainte-Eulalie-D'olt, is 9.5 km long and has an estimated duration of three hours. The estimated time helps you plan the hike into your day, while the distance gives you a sense of its scope. You can therefore choose from a signposted village walking tour, a shorter easy cycling route, a considerably longer cycling route, and a hike with an estimated duration.
