Saint-André-De-Najac brings together landscapes, mill craftsmanship, religious history and leisure activities. At Moulin Le Moulinet, discover water power and traditional techniques; the chapel and church offer different historical points of reference. Mini golf and horse rides add further activities to the mix. When choosing a destination, you can decide whether you are most interested in mill craftsmanship, religious buildings or a leisure activity.

Landscape and orientation

The municipal area lies on a plateau in the ancient peneplain of the Massif Central, which rises to 433 metres. Puechs, combes, flat areas and valleys form part of this landscape; some valley slopes are steep. The Viaur is one of the three watercourses that border the municipal area. The plateau, valleys and river thus provide different points of reference in the landscape. If you are interested in the scenery, the Viaur is not the only feature to consider: the elevation and varied terrain also shape the area.

As a road reference, Saint-André-De-Najac is on the D922, the road between Villefranche and Albi. For general orientation, you can locate the town along this route. Its position on the road adds a practical reference point for planning your journey to the landscape information.

Chapel, church and mill craftsmanship

The Chapelle Notre Dame de Laval is a small 9th-century chapel on the banks of the Viaur. It contains three 17th-century Baroque altarpieces, which are classified as cultural heritage. The building and its furnishings thus span different centuries: the chapel dates from the 9th century, while the altarpieces are a later Baroque addition. The church of Saint-André-de-Najac is distinct from the chapel. It has Gothic openings that probably date from the 14th century. Together, the two religious buildings offer different historical points of reference: the chapel on the riverbank and the church, whose openings are dated with appropriate caution.

At Moulin Le Moulinet, a sawmill, a walnut-oil mill and a grain mill are in operation. Each of the three facilities has a horizontal waterwheel powered by water. Visits include demonstrations and explanations of how water power is used and of the skills of earlier generations. The different activities come together here: sawing, pressing walnut oil and milling grain. The demonstrations explain the role of water power and connect it with traditional methods. Walnut oil and wheat flour are also sold on site.

Mini golf and horse rides

La Source Aveyron mini golf features 22 holes themed around the symbolism of the cards of the ancient Tarot de Marseille, spread over three levels. The grounds are a landscaped, flower-filled leisure park covering 2,000 m²; they offer shade on hot days. Its theme, levels and design give this activity a different focus from the historic buildings or a visit to the mill. As visitor arrangements may change, it is best to check them before your visit.

La Ferme des Grandes Oreilles offers horse rides to explore the Viaur Valley. It also runs full-moon rides at night from June to September. The experiences have different focuses: some centre on the valley, while others take place at night under the full moon. Dates and availability may change; check both in advance for your travel dates. This lets you plan your rides around your schedule without assuming a particular date or availability.

You can choose from a range of interests: religious buildings with different historical associations, mills with demonstrations and explanations, and leisure activities from mini golf to horse rides. The landscape and the Viaur add a distinct local context to these options. Your choice of focus depends on whether you want your trip to centre more on cultural heritage, craftsmanship or activities.
